Chapter 315 Could A Stepmother Truly Care for Them?

"Really?" Violet's eyes widened in disbelief. "I've been freaking out these past two days, scared he'd find out."

Emily chuckled. "Relax. I've got it covered."

Violet nodded.

"By the way, who did you get help from? Brady Hall's no fool." Violet was curious. Emily's family had money, but they weren't in Brady's league.

"My classmate runs the place where he sent the stuff for appraisal. Tweaking the data was a piece of cake," Emily said confidently.

Violet got it but was still worried. "If this gets out, won't your classmate be in trouble?"

Emily explained, "Nope. Brady used a private firm, not a government one. No big deal."

Violet finally felt relieved. "Thanks a ton."

"Come on. I just don't want the Hall family to take away the kids." Emily knew the Hall family wouldn't accept Violet, but they wouldn't let their illegitimate kids roam free either. They'd take the kids, and Brady would marry someone of his social standing, who'd become Nicole and Henry's stepmom. A stepmom wouldn't care for them like a real mom would.

Emily knew too well that marriages in their world were never about love, let alone raising someone else's kids.

"Okay," Violet answered.

"Just chill. The results will be sent to Brady tomorrow," Emily reassured her. "Once he sees them, he won't come for the kids."

"That's good." Violet felt better and didn't dwell on it.

She pulled Henry and Emily to play. After about twenty minutes, Violet checked the time. It was time to head to Brady's. She got up and said, "Emily, I need to step out for a while. You and my aunt keep playing with the kids."

Emily asked, "It's after working hours. What do you have to do?" Then she remembered her cousin was visiting Violet tonight. "Did my cousin come to see you?"

"He did, but it's not about him," Violet said, changing her shoes at the door.

"Alright. Come back soon." Emily didn't press further and kept playing with the kids. The aunt took Henry to the window to look at the moon, so he wouldn't cling to Violet.

Leaving home, Violet hurried to Brady's mansion. As she got closer, she saw a familiar Bentley approaching.

It was Brady's car.

She ran to his mansion and rang the doorbell. The housekeeper opened the door, and Violet quickly slipped in.

She was worried Brady would ask where she'd been or try to trick her into revealing her thoughts. He was good at setting traps in conversations, and she wasn't as sharp as he was.

"Ms. Devereux, have you eaten?" The housekeeper, unaware Brady was just outside, asked warmly.

Violet smiled. "Yes." She sat on the sofa to wait for Brady.

The housekeeper offered, "Let me get you some chicken soup."

"I'm not hungry." Violet quickly declined.

The housekeeper, following Mr. Hall's orders, insisted. "Mr. Hall specifically requested this. If you don't drink it, it'll be wasted. We can't eat the master's food, or we'll get our wages docked."

Feeling bad, Violet relented. "Alright. Bring it over."

The housekeeper, pleased, went to the kitchen to get the soup.
