Chapter 213 Collapsing

Violet Devereux found herself ensconced at her desk, her mind a whirlwind of ideas for Lady Hall's coat design. Yet, as she attempted to translate her thoughts onto paper, she found herself drawing a blank.

An unsettling restlessness had taken hold of her, her focus disrupted by the unresolved matter that hung over her like a dark cloud.

Releasing a soft sigh, Violet set her pen aside and cast a glance towards Max Green's office. She decided to discuss the leak with him, hoping it might ease her troubled mind.

As if on cue, Max emerged from his office, his gaze softening at the sight of Violet. He approached her with a gentle pace, his voice carrying a note of relief. "Violet Devereux, your return is timely. I need to speak with you."

"What is it, Mr. Green?" Violet responded with a respectful tone, stepping aside to lend him her full attention.

Max, ever the informal one, responded with a casual smile. "JK has some international runway collaborations lined up for the latter half of the year. Next month, we're heading to Paris for a partnership meeting. Prepare yourself; you're coming with me."

Violet's elegant eyebrows furrowed in surprise as Max's words sunk in. Brady Hall had just mentioned this Paris partnership in the car.

Could it be true? She was a recent graduate, still an intern. Surely, there were other designers at JK with more experience and seniority who were better suited for the trip. And with her impending resignation, what use would the trip be to her?

It seemed a waste, better to leave the opportunity to someone who would stay with JK long-term.

After mulling it over, Violet prepared herself to decline. "Mr. Green, with Loraine’s situation still unresolved, I’m hesitant to accept such arrangements."

Max reassured her, his tone warm and understanding. "Loraine Plahn's issue will get resolved eventually, and we need to press on with the partnership. Yes, JK is currently under a cloud of defamation, but that doesn't hinder Mr. Hall's long-term plans for JK, right?"

Violet remained unconvinced, shaking her head. "Mr. Green, can we wait until Loraine’s matter is resolved?"

Max hesitated, wanting to explain that the two issues didn't intersect. He had always believed that Violet Devereux wasn't the type to tarnish JK's reputation, so even if Loraine Plahn's situation wasn't resolved immediately, it wouldn't prevent him from confirming Violet's trip to Paris.

But seeing her face twisted in conflict and guilt, Max didn't push her. Instead, he gently suggested, "How about this, let's wait until Loraine's matter is settled before we discuss the Paris issue."

There was still a month before the collaboration in Paris, plenty of time to sort things out. "Also, I've already spoken to Ms. Murphy. She did visit the factory, but it was to discuss brand collaboration. The master craftsmen there reported back to me and there were no issues, we currently have no evidence to conclusively point to her, so I will continue to investigate."

Violet nodded, her voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Mr. Green, for your trust."

"I've always believed in you." With that, Max gave her a final glance before moving on to other matters.

Violet returned to her desk, her mind somewhat eased. She tried to refocus her attention on her design sketches. A sudden thirst overcame her, and she made her way to the break room for a drink.

As she poured herself a cup of water from the cooler, she failed to notice a thin layer of white powder lining the bottom. The boiling water dissolved it, and she took a few sips as she walked back to her desk.

Just as she was about to sit down, a sharp pain erupted in her abdomen. The pain twisted and tightened, a relentless knotting sensation that left her breathless. Violet couldn't comprehend what was happening. Her vision blurred, the cup slipped from her grasp, and darkness enveloped her. Her body hit the floor with a heavy thud.

The colleagues who had initially paid no attention to her sudden collapse were jolted into panic when they realized she wasn't getting up. Shrill screams filled the air, "Call 911, Violet has fainted!"
