Chapter 708 Evelyn Won

Helen heard James' voice and immediately turned around, meeting his furious gaze. Her eyes reddened even more. "James, I'm sorry."

"Don't apologize to me. I can't accept it." James couldn't bear to look at Evelyn's photo.

It chilled him to the bone.

"James, I know I messed up." Helen didn't want to be separated from James.

She reached out and grabbed the corner of his shirt, pleading, "James, I know I was wrong."

"You know you were wrong, but Evelyn is dead." James couldn't forgive her right away.

It might take years, maybe even longer.

"I know. I'll take good care of Violet," Helen said, tears streaming down her face.

Juniper, feeling sorry for Helen, walked over and supported her. "Mom, can you give Dad some time? Let him stay here with Evelyn for a while."

"Juniper, what do you mean?" Helen asked anxiously, not understanding her words.

"Dad plans to stay here and spend more time with Evelyn," Juniper said weakly.

She knew saying this would make Helen sad.

Because it meant James might not return to Eldoria for a long time, and he might not forgive Helen for a long time either.

This was what Helen feared the most.

James might not divorce her, but he could make her live with the guilt for the rest of her life.

Make her uneasy, make her atone for Evelyn's suffering.

"James, are you not coming back to Eldoria with us?" Helen looked up, her face full of pain.

"Evelyn suffered her whole life because of me, and in the end, she died so tragically. My conscience is troubled. If you want to go back, go ahead. I need to stay here with her." After everything that had happened, he had completely come to terms with it.

He handed Lawson Corporation over to Ethan; he didn't want to manage it anymore.

All he wanted now was to stay here with Evelyn.

He knew Evelyn would wait for him and would want someone to keep her company.

Otherwise, this place was so lonely, and he feared she would feel isolated.

With him here, she would be happy.

"James, what about us? You can't just abandon us," Helen said, on the verge of breaking down.

She knew James would abandon her like this.

He wouldn't divorce her, but emotionally, he had already separated from her.

"The kids are grown up and can live independently. I'm confident in Ethan managing Lawson Corporation. You can go back to Eldoria and live well without me taking care of you," James said calmly. "But Evelyn is different. She's here alone, with no one to keep her company. What if she's scared and lonely?"

"James!" Helen cried out.

She had so much to say, but it was stuck in her throat. All she could do was call his name.

James finished speaking and looked at Violet, saying softly, "Violet, I hope that one day, you can you can acknowledge me as your father."

Violet pressed her lips together, silent for a moment, then nodded.

"Are you going to stay here with my mom?"

James nodded, his voice trembling a bit. "Yes, this is the only thing I can do for her now. It's been over 20 years; she must have been waiting for me here all this time, and I never came to find her. If I don't do something now, I will live with guilt."

This decision, once made, wouldn't change.

Helen was completely shattered.

She had taken James from Evelyn for over 20 years, thinking she had won everything.

But in the end, Evelyn won.

James would think only of Evelyn until the day he died.

And Helen was the ultimate loser.
