Chapter 188 Another Paternity Test
Just as Mrs. Devereux was on the brink of regaining her composure, the mention of her son sparked her fury once more. She rounded on him, her voice laced with venom. "You useless, good for nothing son, how dare you defend her?" she spat. "Can you believe the audacity of that girl? She poured water over me today. She has no respect for authority," she seethed.
"I understand, Mother, which is why I suggest we cease all contact with her. Let's act as if she's not your granddaughter," Jacob Devereux proposed.
"Silence! She is your daughter, and she's tarnishing the Devereux family name. Now she's even attempting to steal Lilian's potential suitor. Am I not supposed to intervene?" Mrs. Devereux retorted, grinding her teeth in frustration.
Jacob Devereux was taken aback. He was not aware of Violet's latest misdemeanors. Any residual paternal affection he had for her evaporated instantly. When it came to Lilian, he was unapologetically biased. "Mother, is that really true?" he asked, his voice filled with disbelief.
"That girl is pursuing Brady now, likely as a means of revenge against us. I will not let her succeed," Mrs. Devereux hissed, her voice filled with vitriol.
In matters concerning Lilian, Jacob Devereux had no objections. "Mother, handle it as you see fit," he conceded.
A steely glint appeared in Mrs. Devereux's eyes. "I'll make she regrets ever crossing us. Just you wait and see," she vowed.
Meanwhile, outside Caesar's Restaurant.
Brady retrieved his car keys, deciding to drop by Violet's apartment to check on Henry and Nicole first.
Before he left, he summoned his assistant, instructing him to wait outside the hotel. If Arthur failed to drive Violet home, the assistant was to take on the task.
Having issued his orders, Brady made his way back to the apartment. However, he made a quick detour to a department store to purchase some extravagant toys that the children would find irresistible.
He hadn't inquired about Nicole's situation the last time she was taken.
It had been a while since Brady felt this strange connection when it came to familial relations.
Even though the paternity test was inconclusive, he felt a deep-seated conviction that they were his family.
So, he decided to have the test redone. If it still came back negative, he would finally be comfortable severing them from his life.
This time, he sent the samples directly to a lab in Washington, D.C., hoping for a more reliable result.
With this decision made, Brady felt a sense of relief. Upon arriving at the apartment building, he grabbed the toys he had purchased and knocked on Violet's door.
Inside the apartment, Violet's nanny, Hellen, was busy tidying up the room. The two little ones, having just finished their bottles of milk, were quietly watching Peppa Pig on the television.
The sound of the doorbell ringing went unnoticed by Hellen.
However, Henry heard it. He scrambled excitedly towards the door, eager to open it.
Unfortunately, the door was too high for his small stature, and he couldn't reach the handle.
Frustrated, he turned his head and called out for Hellen repeatedly.
After several shouts, Hellen finally heard him and hurried over, setting aside the items she was organizing.
Henry gestured towards the door and said, "Mommy?"
He thought it was his mother returning home.
Hellen smiled, ruffling Henry's hair as she moved towards the door. "Is Mom back?" she asked.
Instead of Violet, she was met with the tall and dashing figure of Brady standing at the doorstep.
Hellen froze instinctively, her hand reaching to close the door.
But Brady was quicker, propping his hand against the doorframe. "I'm here to check on the kids," he announced.
Overpowered by his strength, Hellen was unable to shut the door. "Brady, this isn't a good time," she protested.
"I'll just take a quick look and leave. I won’t disturb you," Brady insisted, stepping inside the apartment.
Unable to stop him, Hellen quickly moved to shield Henry, her voice shaky as she said, "Brady, really, it's not a good time."
"Hellen, what are you afraid of?" Brady's tone was gentle, but his authoritative presence discouraged any further objections.
"I'm not afraid,” Hellen offered an awkward smile, "It's just that at this hour, a visit from the CEO of Hall Enterprises to my home is really inconvenient."
"I'll just have a look at them and leave," Brady reassured her, placing a toy Transformer on the floor. He addressed Henry, who was hiding behind Hellen, "Henry, do you want to play with the Transformer?"
His intentions were simple; he just wanted to see his children.
Without another paternity test, he had no intention of taking the children away.
At the mention of Transformers, Henry's eyes lit up, but he hesitated.
Finally, unable to resist the allure of the toy, he stepped out from behind Hellen.
He cautiously admired the large, luxurious Transformer toy.
The Transformer was indeed irresistible to him.
Seeing this, Hellen made a decision. Since Brady was already inside and she couldn't get him to leave, she rushed back to her bedroom to call Violet, urging her to come home.
