"Austin, cut it out. We're in a hotel. This isn't the place to talk about this," Emily said, trying to shut him down. She knew it wasn't just his reputation on the line.
Everyone here was involved.
"Emily, I don't care about my reputation. I just don't want you to misunderstand me," Austin said, looking down and slowly standing up.
He pulled himself together, glanced at Emily and Lucien, wiped away his tears, and resumed his composed, scholarly demeanor. "Emily, if you want to break up with me, fine. But can we have Mr. Hart handle it?"
"If he agrees, I'll leave immediately and won't bother you again."
"Austin, you know my dad's health isn't great," Emily said, her face tightening with frustration. She had felt a bit of sympathy for him earlier, but his words had completely erased it.
Now, she was crystal clear about her feelings. She had to break up with him.
His erratic behavior scared her.
More than Lucien did.
She couldn't keep dating him.
"I know, but if we break up, he'll find out eventually, won't he?" Austin said seriously. "Emily, it's late. Let's go home. Tomorrow, let's have Mr. Hart handle this and resolve it."
"Austin, you..." Emily didn't want to involve her father. Breaking up was supposed to be simple.
Why did it have to turn into a drawn-out drama?
It was worse than those men online who sought revenge on their ex-wives.
"Alright, let's go home," Austin decided to take a gamble. He wasn't willing to give up on the Hart family's wealth.
He knew Douglas liked him.
He had a 60 percent chance of winning.
Emily was speechless, biting her lip. "Fine, let's involve my dad. But if we break up, don't bother me."
"Okay, but if your dad disagrees, or whatever, we still need to get engaged," Austin said slowly.
Emily's face turned pale. Was he really clinging to her?
Lucien, seeing Emily's frightened expression, looked at Austin and said, "Don't scare her."
Austin replied indifferently, "I wouldn't dare."
After speaking, he realized staying wouldn't change Emily's mind, so he left, planning to deal with it tomorrow.
Once Austin left, the onlookers gradually dispersed.
When everyone was gone, Violet approached Emily and asked, "Emily, are you okay?"
Emily turned to see Violet, and the suppressed emotions burst out. She hugged Violet and started crying, "Why is he like this? Can't we just break up?"
"Don't be afraid. Even if Austin wants your dad involved, if you don't want it, your dad won't force you," Violet comforted her gently. "Why don't you stay with me tonight?"
Emily had been thinking the same thing and nodded, hugging Violet and crying harder.
Violet continued to soothe her, "It's okay. He's just a college professor. He wouldn't dare threaten or harm you. Don't worry, we will protect you!"
And the Hart family had bodyguards, too.
If Austin really wanted to do something, he'd have to see if he had the guts.
"Okay," Emily nodded again.
Violet patted her back, reassuring her, then turned to Lucien and said, "Professor Moreau, you can go home. She'll stay here tonight."
Lucien glanced at the crying woman in Violet's arms, thought for a moment, and said, "Alright, call me if anything happens."
"I will," Violet said, making a gesture before taking Emily to the presidential suite.
Brady stayed behind to chat with Lucien about what had just happened.
"He's more persistent than I thought," Brady said with a sneer.
Lucien agreed, his eyes calm, "People will do anything for wealth."
"Emily is my wife's best friend, Professor Moreau. I might need to trouble you more," Brady said, trusting Lucien's integrity.
Even though Lucien had been friends with Darian before.
His way of handling things was principled and respectful.
Lucien didn't need Brady to ask; he would protect Emily. "Mr. Hall, I'll take good care of her."
"Good," Brady nodded. Lucien checked the time and left.
Brady watched Lucien's departing figure, his eyes thoughtful.
This matter would depend on how Lucien handled it.
