Chapter 117: A Man's Instinct Tells Him to Stop

Brady Hall had never brought a woman to his apartment of his own volition. Violet Devereux was the first, aside from a previous visit with Henry and Nicole for a paternity test, which was unrelated to today's events.

Why had he felt compelled to check on her after Arthur's call and the onset of rain? There she was, foolishly waiting in the rain for Loraine. Didn't the Devereux family teach her better?

Loraine Plahn was not someone easily approached, let alone appeased for design approval. And yet, Violet had waited until she collapsed from the rain.

Brady couldn't understand her, and even less so himself. He had no romantic interest in her, only a physical one, and yet he had felt an urge to see her in the rain.

Now was not the time for such thoughts. The woman in his arms was feverish from the rain.

He brought her into his apartment and summoned his personal doctor and housekeeper.

While waiting, Brady, normally fastidious about cleanliness, didn't hesitate to lay Violet, soaked as she was, on his pristine velvet bedding. Instinctively, he considered removing her wet skirt but stopped himself. He respected boundaries and would not exploit her vulnerability. Instead, he covered her with a blanket and waited in the living room for the doctor and housekeeper.

The doctor and housekeeper arrived as Brady sat on the sofa, lighting a cigarette. A call from Arthur interrupted his smoke.

Brady answered, and Arthur, sounding amused, inquired, "My cousin mentioned someone is missing?"

Brady responded indifferently, "What's that to me?"

Arthur chuckled, "The security mentioned a car with a Beijing plate is missing. A Bentley came to pick you up. We don't have many of those in New York. Did you take her?"

Brady admitted without evasion, "Yes, I took her."

Arthur prodded, "Are you serious about her?"

Brady dismissed the inquiry, "Why do you care?"

"Just concerned about your happiness," Arthur replied.

"Thanks," Brady said, ready to end the call.

Arthur signed off with a half-smile.

Brady set aside his phone and resumed smoking.

Shortly after, the doctor and housekeeper arrived. Brady extinguished his cigarette and directed the doctor to treat Violet while the housekeeper changed her clothes.

Finding only men's clothing, the housekeeper approached Brady, "I've removed Violet's clothes, but there are no women's garments here."

Brady grunted a response, "Take any shirt from my wardrobe for her to wear."

The housekeeper nodded and promptly fetched a white shirt for Violet.
