Chapter 997 She Is Very Annoyed with Lucien Now

Emily didn't want to hear it. She glared at him, gripping the door frame tightly to keep him out.

Even though Lucien had kissed her in the airplane bathroom earlier, he wasn't the type to force himself on others. At least, not anymore.

If something was important, he'd explain it calmly. Like her father's situation.

But Emily was so disgusted with him that she wouldn't listen to a word he said.

If she had once revered him as an untouchable deity, now she saw Lucien as having fallen from grace.

He seemed like a scoundrel!

"Professor Moreau, have some self-respect. My father's situation is none of your business."

Lucien raised an eyebrow, speaking slowly and deliberately, "His college friend isn't a specialist in cardiology. At best, he's an assistant. If you want your father to be well taken care of, you should come to me."

The more Emily listened, the angrier she got. Who needed him?

"Thanks, but I trust Mr. Roberts won't deceive me."

Lucien knew she was angry, so he didn't mind her attitude. "Kissing you on the plane was impulsive, but regarding your father, I hope you'll listen to me this time."

Emily looked at him and scoffed coldly, "Why should I? I remember the Moreau family and the Hart family have a history. Are you really that kind-hearted?"

"I've come to realize you men can be so despicable," Emily ground her teeth and spat out.

When she was chasing him around, he wouldn't even give her a glance. Now that she didn't want him, he was coming after her?

"What, you think if you help me, I'll come running back to you? What kind of dream are you living in?"

"Even if I don't marry Mr. Roberts, I won't marry you. Just so you know."

Lucien's expression finally changed slightly, and he said her name in a low, grinding voice, "Emily!"

"Angry? Then leave. Stop bothering me!" Emily was about to close the door.

Lucien raised his hand to block the door, his voice taking on a cold, forceful tone, "We can set aside our issues for now. Your father's situation is serious, and there's no need to oppose me on this."

"His friend stayed in America for three years, only got an offer last year, and then applied to be an assistant. Do you know the level of a physician assistant in America? He hasn't even started practicing or gotten certified, and you trust him to examine your father? Are you blinded by him, or do you not care about your father's well-being?"

Emily had been ready to curse him out, but somehow, his words got through to her.

She bit her lip and fell silent.

She couldn't afford to gamble with her father's life.

Even though it was just a check-up, she wanted to ensure everything was perfect.

Seeing that she seemed to be listening, Lucien's voice softened as he continued, "If you change your mind, meet me at Lakeside Hospital tomorrow at 10 AM. I've already arranged for the best cardiologist there. If you're willing to trust me this once."

Lucien finished speaking and left without forcing his way into her room.

Emily stood at the door, her brow furrowed, instantly plunged into a deep, conflicted dilemma.

She was very annoyed with Lucien.

He was fickle and now wanted to come back to her.

She didn't understand his motives. Was it just a man's possessiveness or something else?

She didn't believe he genuinely liked her.

Maybe it was because Austin, who worked in the same office as him, was about to marry the woman who once chased him.

He was probably feeling bitter.

Otherwise, she couldn't understand why he changed so quickly.

And what about Willow?

Thinking of this, Emily irritably closed the door to her suite.

After closing the door, she leaned against it, staring at the floor-to-ceiling window in front of her, feeling even more agitated.

Setting aside their issues, should she trust his words?

She couldn't ignore her father's health, but if she chose the doctor Lucien recommended, wouldn't she owe him?

Thinking of this, Emily felt incredibly troubled, wishing someone could split her in two.
