Chapter 183 Brady's Unprecedented Generosity

Violet's mood, soured from the morning's events, brightened considerably after a text exchange with Emily. The therapeutic power of a conversation with her closest friend was undeniable. Without it, she might have succumbed to the mounting frustration. However, reflecting on the torment she and her mother had endured at the hands of the Devereux family, she realized that her feelings of anger was futile— detrimental to her health, even.

Thus, Violet chose not to dwell on this morning's unpleasant interaction with Mrs. Devereux, who had stormed in to settle old scores. Instead, she decided to focus her energy on assisting Loraine with her wedding dress at the dress studio. The only task remaining was to sew on the handmade pearls and a few rhinestone embellishments. The dress was a few stitches away from perfection.

Half an hour later, Violet arrived at the studio. After exchanging some pleasantries with the tailor, she texted Loraine.

Violet: [The dress will be ready today. I'll send you pictures when it's done.]

Loraine: [Okay.]

Violet: [I won't bother you any further, then.]

Loraine: [Miss Devereux, what about the matter we discussed last time? You never got back to me.]

Violet had genuinely forgotten about the pre-wedding trip.

Violet: [Sorry, Loraine, I just don't have the time. Have a great trip.]

Having sent the message, Violet immersed herself in the day's tasks.

Meanwhile, the news of Mrs. Devereux's disruption had reached Brady. He listened gravely as Linda recounted the incident.

Once she finished, he declared icily, "The Devereux family members are no longer welcome at the Hall residence. Anyone who lets them in can pack up and leave—effective immediately."

Linda nodded, "Of course Brady, I'll see to it."

Elsewhere, Loraine chuckled at Violet's refusal and turned to Arthur, who had come over to hang out, "Arthur, what do we do? She doesn't want to come."

Arthur, engrossed in his card game, flicked a King of Hearts as he replied, "How did you invite her?"

"I just asked normally. What, should I have begged her instead?" Loraine retorted, her graceful figure shifting as she sat across from Arthur, "Arthur, I'm a celebrity, you know. I won’t just stoop that low."

Arthur chuckled, "If it’s for Brady's happiness, you should try to find a way to invite her."

"And if she really doesn't want to?" Loraine mused, resting her chin in her hand, "I get the feeling she doesn't quite like Brady."

"Violet not liking Brady is precisely what piques his interest. If she were smitten with him, he wouldn't necessarily feel the same," Arthur mused, tossing his cards onto the table slowly.

"You guys are so bizarre," Loraine sighed, shaking her head as she glanced at Brady's nonchalant expression. "When someone says they're not interested, you’d chase after them relentlessly. Then, once you've actually gotten them, you barely care. It's always the poor young girls who suffer."

Loraine knew Brady and his buddy Arthur all too well. The only thing that would make guys like them settle down was a strategic marriage for the family business. The women they dated? They were just entertainment to them.

But on the flip side, at least these women wouldn’t walk away empty-handed. They wouldn't receive affection or a title, true, but they'd certainly receive substantial gifts or offers when the time came for these playboys to enter arranged marriages.

"Victim? What victim?" Arthur boasted, barely looking up from his cards. "Our Brady’s a catch – handsome and rich. Plus, he’s generous to a fault." He smirked, adding, "From what I've seen, he’s been exceptionally generous to Violet."

"How so?" Loraine's curiosity was piqued. Her ears perked up as she leaned in to listen.

"If Violet agrees to be with him, he's ready to gift her his luxury apartment downtown. Tell me, isn't that the very definition of generous?" Arthur was certain that Violet hitting it off with Brady would be a real score to him.

Real estate worth millions just like that? Which woman could possibly refuse? Loraine's jaw nearly hit the floor. "That's a hell of a lot of money. Even the A-listers in our circles would jump at the chance. Why's he being so lavish?"

"He has a thing for neatness, and I don’t mean you, no offense," Arthur quipped, earning a faux glare from Loraine.

It seemed like she'd have to strategize harder to get another shot at hanging out with Violet. With Brady being this generous, he must really be smitten with her.
