Chapter 187 Violet's Disownment by the Devereux Family
The atmosphere was undeniably tense, yet the necessity of dining could not be overlooked. Violet, who required Arthur's assistance, steeled herself for the mildly humiliating task of choosing from the menu.
Arthur, in the meantime, indulged in a glass of red wine, the liquid swirling gently in his glass as he admired Violet's exquisite features. His experiences had led him through a myriad of social circles, yet a beauty like Violet was a rare find. His sole desire now was for them to be in a relationship.
It had been years since Arthur felt such a magnetic pull towards a woman. He silently admired Violet, who remained blissfully oblivious to his lingering gaze.
With a demure air, Violet selected a few dishes and handed the menu back to Arthur. "Arthur, I've made my selections," she announced.
He glanced at the menu and queried, "Is this all you want? You can order whatever you like."
Shaking her head with a smile, Violet responded, "This is plenty. It’d be a waste to order too much." Her appetite was not particularly strong, and the dishes she had chosen were more than enough.
Respecting her decision, Arthur lowered his gaze and began to place his own order. Violet took a sip of her water, her eyes inadvertently made their way to the man who seemed unable to tear his gaze away from her. This caused a slight unease to stir within her.
'She didn't need to worry about Arthur. As long as Brady didn't cause any trouble, she would be fine.' She quickly averted her gaze and continued to sip her water.
Arthur completed his order swiftly, and they resumed their discussion about her mother's case, their conversation flowing smoothly.
However, the chemistry between them through their interaction seemed slightly amiss to the man seated at a neighboring table, inciting an uncomfortable sense of trepidation within him. It was clear he was growing irritated.
Truth be told, Brady was aware that he harbored no romantic feelings for Violet. His desire to possess her was purely primal.
Yet, as it stood, watching the two of them converse so jovially was beginning to eat away at his nerves.
After a moment of quiet observation, Brady felt the need to control his emotions, which were bordering on possessive intentions. He wanted her, yes, but merely to quench his desires, nothing more.
And even if she did start dating this man, he was confident he'd find a way to break them up.
After a few more moments, Brady rose from his seat and exited the establishment. On his way out of Caesar’s Restaurant, he dialed his assistant to investigate this man. He seemed vaguely familiar, but Brady couldn't quite place where he’d seen him before.
Within ten minutes of contacting his assistant Linda, he had his answer. The man courting Violet was an attorney and major shareholder at Tourna Law Firm - Arthur.
Arthur’s name rang a bell. He was reputedly a formidable figure in the legal field, often referred to as a “golden” attorney.
'So, just a lawyer then?' Brady thought. He remained confident that he could win Violet over. For now, his attention shifted to checking on Henry and Nicole.
On the other side of the city, within the Devereux family estate, Mrs. Devereux had returned early in the morning from JK. The heartache from the previous day's drama had left her bedridden the entire day before she started to recuperate.
However, her recovery did nothing to quell her rage. Every time she recalled the audacity of that little wretch for daring to humiliate her in public, a sharp pain throbbed in her chest.
She had never expected Violet to be so bold.
After finally rising from her bed, Mrs. Devereux, with the assistance of Eileen Morgan, moved to the living room to rest. There, Jacob Devereux sat on the couch, mentally preparing himself for his mother's tirade about Violet's disgraceful outburst.
He was fully aware of the incident involving Violet and Mrs. Devereux and anticipated the impending storm.
And as he predicted, Mrs. Devereux began berating him as soon as she entered the living room. Jacob endured her reprimands quietly until she had vented enough for him to interject, "Mom, Violet has already been expelled from the Devereux family. Let's just forget about her."
Despite the lack of his strong attachment to his daughter, he couldn't deny that she was his own flesh and blood.
