Chapter 879 In the Next Life, He Wouldn't Want to Be Human
"This is the last time I'm coming here," Lucien said, his eyes locked on Darian. He paused, noticing Nicole crying by the window.
His brows furrowed instantly. "Stop this now, while you can."
"Stop what?" Darian laughed, his clean, handsome face looking both forlorn and hateful under the clouds.
"Why do you all act like you're saints, trying to talk me out of this?"
Lucien ignored his sarcasm. He knew Darian's mind was troubled.
Years of mental and physical torment in his childhood had left scars. The fact that Darian had survived this long was a testament to his strength, but it was clear he had psychological issues.
"Darian, come with me. I'll get you the help you need," Lucien said, offering a final bit of compassion. "Then turn yourself in. Apologize to your teacher, to Violet, and Mr. Hall. Maybe, you can start over."
Start over? What kind of life could he start over?
People who lived in comfort could never understand the lives of those who were tormented.
The idea of starting over was nothing but a joke.
Once ruined, there was no going back.
If they just let him take Nicole and Violet back to Elysium Springs, everything could start over. But if he turned himself in, it would be truly over.
"Don't bother trying to persuade me. Just leave," Darian said, closing his eyes briefly.
Lucien knew he couldn't convince him. "You can leave, but Nicole stays. She's Mr. Hall's kid. If you take her, even if you escape to Elysium Springs, he'll find you. Is this what you want?"
Darian didn't care. He was ready to die together if necessary, so he laughed coldly. "I just want something from Violet. Why is it so hard? If he finds me, so be it."
Lucien's face showed anger for the first time. He prided himself on his patience and tolerance, but this time, he couldn't help but be angry.
He raised his hand and, for the first time, punched Darian directly in the face.
Darian was caught off guard, stumbling back a few steps, looking at Lucien in shock.
It was as if he didn't recognize him.
Lucien withdrew his hand, speaking through clenched teeth. "Darian, Jade is in the ICU. Where's your conscience?"
"I always thought you had some conscience, that maybe you'd regret what you did after a few days. But now, it's clear you won't regret or feel guilty."
"So this time, either kill me like you did Jade, or you won't be taking Nicole."
Darian wouldn't kill him. He just pressed his aching cheek, looking at Lucien coldly.
The air began to freeze.
After a while, Darian chuckled softly. "Being human is exhausting."
He had always thought being human was exhausting.
His father was an alcoholic, and whenever he drank, he took out his anger on Darian, beating him with belts, sticks, and iron rods. Darian had never known a day of peace.
His body had never been whole.
It wasn't until he went abroad and made something of himself that he felt like a person.
But even then, he wasn't satisfied.
Being human, he wanted the girl he desired.
That girl was the only one who had ever smiled at him. Her eyes were clear and bright.
She had lit a lamp in his life.
He thought she would like him.
But she didn't. She married someone else.
So being human was exhausting.
In the next life, he wouldn't want to be human.
