Chapter 137 Our Mr. Jacob Is a Bachelor

Arthur Stanley chuckled softly, rising to offer her a seat. "Please, have a seat Ms. Devereux. You don't have to worry about Mr. Hall—he's a straight arrow; no woman in his life."

"Thanks, but I've really got to get back home. There's stuff waiting for me," Violet Devereux said, clearly not buying the line from these guys.

No woman? What about Leana? Of course, besides Leana, she had no clue if he had other women. She didn't want to wade into murky waters and get involved.

Her refusal was clear and definitive.

Despite her reluctance, Arthur, who was perceptive and possessed high emotional intelligence, was unphased. He knew his boss, Mr. Hall—the stoic and assertive CEO—knew how to charm women. Arthur smiled and said, "My cousin told me about the mix-up with you. Consider this meal my way of apologizing on her behalf. It has nothing to do with Mr. Hall. Just pretend he's not even here."

Arthur's manner of speaking was particularly pleasant to the ear.

Violet hesitated, still intent on refusing. "It's really okay. I appreciate the gesture, though."

Arthur's concern seemed genuine. "Sure it's not a big deal, but are you sure your head is alright?"

Meanwhile, already seated Loraine Plahn chuckled softly and teased the unresponsive Brady Hall, "Brady, don't you think our cousin's quite the talker? I'm surprised I never noticed him taking an interest in Violet Devereux."

Brady Hall remained silent, his dark eyes intense, as if dipped in ink. He glanced at Violet Devereux, then finally spoke lightly, "What are you up to tonight?"

"Nothing much, she came by to discuss some design work, and Tiff was visiting. I don't know what got into her—she thought Violet was connected to you and just went for her," Loraine recounted the evening's events to Brady Hall honestly.

Brady's gaze deepened. "Is she alright?"

"She's fine now," Loraine responded, then suddenly it struck her as odd—Brady never cared about women this way. What was going on?

Why was he showing concern for Violet Devereux?

What was the deal between the two of them?

Riddled with intrigue, Loraine Plahn finally blurted out, "Brady, since when do you care about her?"

"It's nothing," replied Brady Hall, keeping his feelings close to the chest.

He was indeed interested in Violet Devereux. Not interested in the sense of liking her but in a more primal, physical way.
"Oh, I thought you had your eyes on her too? Guess that means you'd have to compete with my cousin then," Loraine Plahn snickered mockingly.

Brady Hall just huffed sharply in response.

Not a chance – Violet Devereux had caught his interest now.

Arthur Stanley was still earnestly trying to convince Violet Devereux to stay for dinner, talking her ear off until she finally wavered a bit. However, her reason for relenting was because Loraine Plahn had promised her a wedding dress order earlier that day.

So, for the sake of the order...

She reluctantly agreed to stay for the meal.

Seeing her actually willing to stick around for dinner, Arthur's charming, peachy eyes crinkled deeper with laughter as he pulled out a chair for her—leaving a space between her and Brady Hall, to avoid giving her any reason to change her mind, then warmly ushered her to sit down.

Violet glanced at the seating arrangement; considering the order, she decided to sit.

Once she was seated, everyone began to order their food.

Arthur knew Brady had a soft spot for Violet, stubborn as he was to admit it. So, why not play the matchmaker and save Brady from a lifelong bachelorhood—doggedly single as he was.

Without a woman in his life.

Menu in hand, Arthur leaned towards Violet with enthusiasm, "What would you like? Anything you want, it's on me tonight."

"Thanks, Gosh," she muttered, taking the menu and diving straight into choosing her meal without sparing another look at anyone else.
