Chapter 348 I'll Call the Police for Your Vilification
"Hey, can the kids try on these sweaters?" Hellen asked, oblivious to the young saleswoman's sneer as she reached out to touch the fabric.
The moment Hellen's hand made contact, the saleswoman shrieked, "Don't touch that! These sweaters are $500 each. If you dirty them and no one buys them, you'll be responsible!"
"My hands aren't dirty!" Hellen, startled, pulled her hand back and smiled. "I want to buy them. Can my kids try them on?"
The saleswoman, clearly annoyed, replied with a smirk, "Ma'am, these are really expensive. You can try them on, but can you afford them?"
"I can afford to buy them," Hellen said firmly, sensing the saleswoman's disdain.
"Really? Two of these cost a thousand dollars!" The saleswoman eyed Hellen's thrift-store outfit skeptically. No way she could afford it.
"Oh, just let them try them on. What if she really can afford them?" Another saleswoman, drawn by the commotion, chimed in, giving Hellen and her kids a once-over.
"Fine, what size do they wear?" the first saleswoman asked coldly.
"Probably size S," Hellen replied, thinking it would be better to buy a bit larger so they could wear them next fall too.
The saleswoman shot them another disdainful look before fetching the size S sweaters. She tossed them into Hellen's arms. "Go try them on, but don't damage or dirty them, or you'll have to pay."
"Why are you being so rude?" Hellen hadn't wanted to make a scene, but the saleswoman's attitude was infuriating. She was planning to buy the sweaters, so why the hostility?
"How am I being rude? I'm just giving you a heads-up. If you can't afford it, don't try it on. If you dirty it, you'll have to pay for it, and it's not worth it!" The saleswoman, clearly dismissive of Hellen, thinking Hellen was a pauper, sneered. "I'm just being kind. Don't mistake it for bad service."
Wasn't this bad enough? Hellen's face darkened. She had a temper too. Why should she endure such treatment just to buy clothes? Without another word, Hellen threw the sweaters back at the saleswoman. "I won't try them on."
She turned to leave with the kids.
Henry, upset, let go of Hellen's hand and ran to the saleswoman. "Bad lady!" He had seen his aunt being scolded and wanted to protect her.
"You little brat, how dare you call me that?" The saleswoman snapped back.
"How can you insult a child?" Hellen couldn't stand any more. She strode up to the saleswoman and said firmly, "With such poor manners, how can you serve customers? Apologize to Henry immediately!"
"Are you kidding? Why should I apologize?" The saleswoman looked at them like they were crazy. "Get out of here. If you can't afford it, don't shop here and embarrass yourselves."
"You..." Hellen was furious, feeling a wave of dizziness as she pressed a hand to her forehead. "I’m going to file a complaint against you."
"Go ahead and try! I'll call the police for defamation!" The saleswoman shot back, threatening her .
Just then, a cold voice cut through the tension from behind the saleswoman, "By tomorrow, you'll be out of this store and banned from ever showing your face in this shopping center again."
