Chapter 885 He Wanted to Sleep in the Water

Three days after Darian's death, Lucien kept his promise and scattered his ashes into the moat.

Years ago, when they met abroad, they had a night of drinking and talking about life and the future.

Eventually, the conversation turned to their wishes after death.

Darian had said he wanted to rest in the water, believing it would purify his soul.

He had earnestly asked Lucien to scatter his ashes into the moat.

At the time, Lucien thought Darian was just drunk and joking.

But now, looking back, he realized that what he had dismissed as drunken rambling was Darian's heartfelt wish.

Darian had known he had no future when he returned home.

After scattering the ashes, Lucien stood silently by the railing of the moat, staring into the distance.

He stood there for a full half-hour until Violet, holding a black umbrella, slowly walked over and stood beside him, also looking out at the moat.

"Mrs. Hall, I didn't think you'd come," Lucien said calmly, turning to look at her. "He did a lot of things that hurt you."

Violet hadn't planned on coming, but the explosion that day had shaken her deeply.

After returning home, she couldn't sleep.

So, after discussing it with Brady, she decided to come and see.

"I met him in high school. Back then, he was kind-hearted and positive about life, full of energy. I thought he must have come from a good family. Now I know he had a troubled home life, just like me," Violet said slowly. "I'm not here to mourn the Darian of today but the Darian I knew in high school, the optimistic and hardworking Darian."

Lucien understood, feeling a deep sense of melancholy.

The Darian from high school hadn't completely turned bad yet. Even during their time studying abroad, he hadn't fully changed.

But he had something missing in his heart. When Violet got married in Crestoria, it was the final straw that broke him, releasing the demons he had been suppressing.

In the end, he destroyed himself.

But if there were another life, Lucien would want to be his friend.

"Professor Moreau, I have to go," Violet said, lifting the edge of her umbrella.

Lucien didn't try to stop her. It was already surprising that she had come.

"Mrs. Hall, take care."

Violet nodded and left without saying more.

Not far away, Brady leaned against a black Mercedes, waiting quietly for Violet.

He hadn't been happy about her coming here.

Darian had kidnapped Nicole and caused her to withdraw from the competition. Was she being overly kind-hearted?

He had jealously refused her request to come.

But Violet explained that she wasn't here out of misplaced kindness or pity for Darian. She knew he had a troubled home life like hers.

So she wanted to remember the bright and cheerful Darian from the past.

Reluctantly, Brady agreed.

After waiting by the car for a while, Violet finally approached.

Brady looked at her, not wanting to mention Darian again. Instead, he asked warmly, "Ready to go home?"

Violet nodded, "Yes."

Brady smiled, gently touched her hair, took the umbrella from her, and helped her into the car.

Once inside, the driver started the engine, and the black Mercedes quickly drove away from the moat.

Outside, Lucien was still standing on the bridge.

Brady glanced out the window, then turned back to Violet. "This is behind us now. How about a trip to the island to relax?"

Violet wanted to unwind, especially since Nicole had been so shaken.

She needed to help her forget the unpleasant memories.

So she agreed without hesitation.
