Chapter 682 What's the Use of Questioning Me Like This
The Mercedes sped into Sunridge Community Hospital, swerving near the parking lot to avoid the crowd and coming to a sudden halt.
Helen, anxious and fearful, stepped out from the back seat, followed closely by her bodyguards and lawyer.
They flanked Helen on both sides, drawing surprised looks from people around the hospital. It was like a scene straight out of a movie.
Everyone watched the elegantly dressed Helen walk into the hospital lobby before returning to their own business.
Helen headed straight to the VIP ward where James was. As she reached the door, a bodyguard moved to open it for her.
Helen quickly waved him off, saying, "No, I'll do it myself." James was physically fine now, so she wasn't overly worried.
But she didn't immediately reach for the door handle. For a moment, Helen felt unable to face James.
She stared at the white door for a while before finally turning the handle. The door clicked open, and Helen took a deep breath, stepping inside.
James, sitting on the hospital bed, didn't seem surprised to see Helen. Ethan had already informed him that she was coming. His eyes showed anxiety and concern, not surprise at her arrival.
The couple exchanged a glance before Helen walked over, nervously fiddling with her purse strap. She decided not to bring up Evelyn right away; finding Juniper was more urgent. "James, how did Juniper go missing?"
James looked at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions. The situation was related to Violet, and he feared Helen would hate Violet if she knew too much.
"Maybe I angered someone here, and they targeted Juniper."
"You haven't been back in over 20 years. Who could you have angered?" Helen didn't believe him. She suspected James was lying. It might really be related to Evelyn.
"Our Lawson family has very few assets in Crestoria. Don't lie to me."
James didn't want her to hate Violet, so he denied it. "Let's focus on finding Juniper first."
Juniper was the priority.
Helen was extremely tense, partly because of Juniper and partly because of Evelyn. She raised her hand and pressed her forehead, trying to calm down.
"Do you have any leads?"
"I've asked Mr. Hall for help. He has extensive connections. Juniper will be fine." James wasn't entirely sure, but he had to trust Brady in this situation.
"Is he reliable? James, Juniper is our daughter. You can't rely on an outsider to find her." Helen felt a surge of anger but maintained her composure, not resorting to loud accusations.
With a lowered voice and red-rimmed eyes, she questioned softly, "James, have you really tried to find her? Did the kidnappers call us? You can't just sit here and do nothing."
Helen's barrage of questions irritated James. His expression darkened, and his tone turned harsh. "I told you, I've arranged for Mr. Hall to help. Juniper will be fine. What good does questioning me do? Will it bring Juniper back?"
Juniper's kidnapping worried him more than anyone. But he couldn't afford to break down; he had to ensure Juniper's safe return.
His unusual irritation and dismissive attitude towards her questions shocked Helen.
Her eyes welled up, and she tightened her grip on her purse. James must have met with Evelyn. Otherwise, why would he speak to her like this? Why was he so indifferent to Juniper's kidnapping?
It seemed her reckoning had arrived.
