Chapter 154 He Had No Doubts About the Paternity Test
"No need, Mr. Hall, thank you for your kindness," Hellen said, still protectively holding her two children closely, fearing any closer contact with Brady Hall might reveal too much.
With that, she quickly ushered her kids away.
As they departed, the assistant Linda whispered, "Mr. Hall, do you want me to ask them to come back?" Linda didn't recognize the trio.
But she had overheard Mr. Hall calling himself the children's father.
Shocked, yet aware that secrets were common in high society, she decided to keep her astonishment and doubts to herself.
"No, let them be," Brady Hall mused, not wanting to rush things.
Suspicion required evidence.
He still lacked proof and couldn't claim the children just yet.
But once he had evidence, he was determined to bring them back.
And the woman? He wanted her too.
Hellen rushed her kids out of the mall and onto the open space outside, finally catching her breath. But Henry was confused; why did Hellen look so scared of that man?
What was going on?
And his mom... she told him to stay away from that man too.
Little Henry couldn't figure it out and turned his innocent face up to his aunt, "Hellen, is that man a good man?"
"Good or not, we can't get too close to him, okay? Henry, Nicole too," Hellen knelt down, speaking to them patiently, "There are people who might trick you and take you somewhere far away."
Henry didn't understand, and neither did Nicole.
Nicole was a good girl, developing at a normal rate. She would simply nod along to whatever Hellen said, not really thinking it through.
Henry, on the other hand, was bright and curious. If something didn't make sense, he would persistently ask, "But why?"
"Because there are bad people who might try to take you away, and we don't want that, do we? We want to make sure mom can always find you," Hellen said as she gently tousled their hair. "Do you want mom to not be able to find you?"
Of course, Henry didn't like that idea at all.
He shook his head vigorously like a bobblehead, "I want mommy."
"Then be good, and don't talk to strangers, okay?" Hellen instructed.
Henry and Nicole promptly nodded in agreement.
After convincing the little ones, Hellen didn't delay and hurriedly led them back home. Once there, she sent the kids to the living room to play while she stepped out onto the balcony with her cell phone to call Violet about the incident.
The phone was quickly answered and Hellen, in a worried tone, said, "Violet, I had a run-in with Brady Hall while out with the kids."
Violet Devereux, busy with designs scattered on her desk, stood up abruptly, asking anxiously, "And? How are the babies?"
Violet kept her voice down, afraid that other designers in the office might overhear her.
"It's okay, just that Brady Hall called Henry his son. What should we do?" Hellen feared men like Brady Hall, successful business tycoons who never give up easily.
"Why would he say that?" Violet asked.
"There was a little scuffle with another kid at the mall, and Brady showed up. But I got them out of there," Hellen explained, "What should we do? I have a feeling... he might still be suspicious of us."
Violet felt the same niggling doubt; Brady Hall wasn't just any man, he single-handedly helmed an entire business empire in New York with intelligence and cunning far beyond the average person.
So, she insisted gently but firmly, "Hellen, don't worry, at least the paternity test is genuine. He won't doubt its authenticity, and even if he has suspicions elsewhere, he has no evidence."
Hellen nodded, though the reassurance did little to ease her anxiety.
Those two children were Violet's life, born out of her sheer determination. What if Brady Hall actually managed to take them away? How could Violet ever stand for it?
With a heavy heart, Hellen suggested, "Violet, have you considered quitting your job? Maybe if we stay out of Brady Hall's sight, things might be easier?"
Violet had mulled over the matter and decided that once she finished her current two design projects, she would bring it up. Despite her previous indecision, if it came down to crossing her boundaries, she was ready to walk away from the fantastic opportunity that JK provided.
"That's great," came the reassuring voice over the phone.
Hanging up, Violet Devereux sank back into her chair, her heart weighed down with worry. Yet, Brady Hall hadn't actually sought her out to discuss the matter after bumping into Henry and Nicole at the mall. He remained silent, and after a few days passed, Violet let go of her concerns.
