Chapter 856 Honey, I'm Sorry, It's All My Fault
"He's gotta stay here for three days, then you can try for bail," the young cop said, holding a bag and speaking in a no-nonsense tone.
"Three days?" Violet acted all surprised and worried, her face showing concern.
"Yeah, if it turns out he did it, he might get charged," the cop went on.
Darian couldn't help but jump in, "Hey, sorry to interrupt, but you called me over, saying Ms. Hernandez's missing?"
"You're Darian, right?" The young cop turned to him, checking.
Darian nodded, "Yeah, that's me."
"Alright, come with me. We need to get your statement," the young cop said, passing the bag to Brady.
Darian nodded again, ready to follow the cop out for the statement.
Brady, who'd been sitting quietly, suddenly spoke up, his voice sharp and direct, aimed at Violet. "Violet, what are you doing here? If you hadn't been looking for Ms. Hernandez, I wouldn't be stuck in this mess!"
"Do you have any idea how much money the Hall Group loses when I'm not there for a day?"
"Marrying you was a mistake. Get out! I don't want to see you!"
It was the first time Brady had been so harsh, and if Violet hadn't been warned it was all an act, she might have been genuinely scared by his anger, almost to tears.
But they were acting, trying to draw out the real culprit.
So Violet let the tears fall, her voice soft and pitiful, "Honey, I'm sorry, it's all my fault."
"I shouldn't have asked you to find Ms. Hernandez. I didn't know she'd go missing."
"Honey, don't be mad at me, I know I was wrong."
"What's the use of being wrong? Can you take my place and stay locked up here? Violet, I thought marrying you was a blessing, but now I see it was a huge mistake. Once this is over, we're getting a divorce," Brady said coldly, grinding his teeth.
Violet was left speechless, just crying.
Darian, who was supposed to go with the police, saw Violet being mistreated and let out a cold laugh, "Mr. Hall's loving husband act is fake, huh? Blaming Violet when things go wrong? What kind of man does that?"
"You seem like a jerk!"
After saying that, Darian walked over to Violet, gently comforting her, "Violet, don't be upset. This isn't your fault; he's the one suspected of kidnapping, not you."
"But... I was the one who sent him," Violet said, tears in her eyes, looking at Darian with a pitiful expression.
Seeing her like this, Darian's heart ached. If Violet were with him, he wouldn't yell at her over something so trivial.
Brady, the bad guy, pretended to be a loving husband but was a jerk.
This time, he was determined to make sure Brady ended up in jail, and then he'd marry Violet and take care of Nicole. As for the other two kids, they'd have to fend for themselves.
"Mr. Voss, you think you can just swoop in and take advantage of this mess? Let me tell you, even if I don't want her, I'm not letting you win!" Brady spat, his eyes locked on Violet.
He hadn't realized Violet was such a natural at acting.
She was nailing it, matching his performance perfectly.
"Mr. Hall, you're in no position to make big claims," Darian replied coolly, meeting his gaze without flinching.
Brady let out a cold laugh, "Violet, get out of here. I can't stand the sight of you!"
Violet's eyes welled up with tears, her lip trembling as she spoke, "Honey,"
"I said get out, now!" Brady said icily.
Violet played along, covering her face and turning to leave.
Darian wanted to follow, but the cop said, "Mr. Voss, we need your statement."
"I know, I'll be right back," Darian said, then hurried after her.
As soon as he left, Brady stood up, slowly walked to the door, and looked through the hallway window at Violet, who had run outside.
His eyes were heavy.
If it weren't for needing to expose the clues, he wouldn't have been able to bring himself to yell at Violet like that.
In the police station parking lot.
Violet ran to her car, crying, but didn't immediately get in. Instead, she crouched down and continued to cry. Her dramatic performance was so convincing, she almost admired her acting skills.
Behind her, Darian caught up, seeing Violet crying there, he crouched down to comfort her, "Violet, don't cry. He's not worth it."
Violet let him approach, still crying.
Darian continued, "If he can yell at you and kick you out over this, you should be glad this showed you his true colors. He's not worth your lifetime commitment; he's a bad guy!"
"Mr. Voss, please stop, I'm upset," Violet said, her head down, looking pitiful.
"I know you're upset, but you need to understand, he's not a good man," Darian said, pulling a clean handkerchief from his pocket and handing it to Violet. "Violet, you deserve a better man, someone who truly cares for you and loves you."
"Mr. Voss, thank you for comforting me. I want to be alone for a bit. He wasn't like this before," Violet said, taking the handkerchief but not wiping her tears, instead holding it tightly to save for later, because it had his fingerprints.
"Alright, take your time. I'll be here for you," Darian said, giving her space to calm down. "I'll go give my statement, and I'll come by the office tomorrow."
"Okay," Violet nodded, watching him leave, then quickly put the handkerchief in her bag.
That handkerchief might help Brady later.
