"Austin, it's normal for couples to break up. Can you please stop acting like this?" Emily was dealing with a 'nightmare guy' like Austin for the first time, someone she couldn't shake off.
She regretted agreeing to date him in the first place. It was her own fault for being blind and naive.
"Emily, I don't want to break up." Austin grabbed Emily's hand and knelt down on one knee, his expression full of sincerity and earnestness. "I love you. I love you more than anyone else."
"You're the only reason I have to keep going."
If Emily didn't know about his abandoned wife, she might have been moved by his persistence. But thinking about the woman she saw this afternoon, struggling to care for her child in the sunlight, made her feel nothing but disgust and nausea.
She tried to push his hand away, but Austin held on tight. Emily couldn't break free, and her face started to show a thin layer of revulsion.
Lucien saw this and walked over without a word. With a simple motion, he pried Austin's hand open, causing Austin to wince in pain and let go.
As soon as Austin released her, Lucien positioned himself protectively in front of Emily.
His gaze was cold and piercing as he looked at the two-faced, scheming man. "Austin, didn't you say these same things to Eris Thompson? And now you want to use the same lines on Emily?"
"After all the despicable things you've done, how do you have the nerve to refuse to break up?"
Lucien's tone was clear and precise, each word carrying weight and authority, leaving Austin momentarily stunned.
His mind went blank, staring at Lucien, and it took a moment for him to remember who Eris was.
The face that had been weak and argumentative suddenly stiffened.
His fingers curled slightly as he looked up at Emily and Lucien. "You went behind my back to find her?"
"So, you're admitting it?" Emily asked.
Austin nodded, not denying anything. But he knew how to play on emotions. Without warning, he dropped to his knees on the cold marble floor, his eyes welling up with tears, looking pitiful. "I did separate from her."
"But you think I abandoned her, don't you? That's not true."
"Emily, you don't have to listen to Lucien. He's only pursuing you because he saw you chasing me. He doesn't love you; it's just his possessiveness. As a man, I understand this very well." Austin's tears flowed freely, switching to a look of utter despair. "Emily, I know it's my fault that things have gotten this bad today."
"But even if you insist on breaking up with me, I need to explain. Eris's situation has nothing to do with me. Yes, we got engaged, but it was out of obligation. She got pregnant before marriage, and the school was going to expel her, so we had to get engaged."
"But actually, she drugged and raped me. If you don't believe me, you can ask her yourself. I'm innocent and a victim too. I had no choice. Even though I'm a man, the law doesn't protect men from rape, but I did my duty to help her. As for the child, she secretly gave birth without telling me."
After Austin finished speaking, Emily was stunned. Lucien, however, remained calm, watching his performance.
Brady and Violet, who had arrived later, heard his words too.
Violet, like Emily, was initially shocked. Brady remained composed, thinking, "He even brought up being drugged and raped?"
It seemed Austin was determined to marry into the Hart family.
