Chapter 155 Just to Be His Easy Prey?
In the meantime, Loraine Plahn had gone to see Leana at her cousin's request.
They were both represented by the same talent agency, so setting up a meeting wasn't difficult. Loraine had called to invite Leana for coffee at the agency's café.
Leana had thought Loraine might have some good news, arriving cheerfully and asking, "What do I owe the pleasure of our meeting today?"
"Well, I have no assignments today, so I’m free," Loraine laughed, stirring her mocha with a small silver spoon. "What would you like to drink?"
"A cappuccino," Leana replied casually, flipping through the menu on the table.
Loraine nodded and gestured to a nearby server to prepare the cappuccino.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" Leana got straight to the point, closing the menu.
Loraine coughed, trying to broach the subject she felt awkward about. Her cousin had insisted she talk to Leana, and she couldn't ignore his wishes. Bracing herself, she said, "Leana, you should stop bothering Violet Devereux."
"Why?" Leana’s eyes widened in surprise.
"Just steer clear of her troubles," replied Loraine, unable to mention that her brother Brady had taken an interest in Violet.
Brady hated gossip swirling around him.
Leana wasn't the type to back down easily. Why would she let go of any chance to get closer to Brady Hall? She'd been infatuated with him for a long time, dreaming of joining the Hall family and becoming the envy of every woman in New York as the glamorous young matriarch.
"You need to give me a reason," Leana insisted.
"The reason is... is...," Loraine scrambled for an excuse, then blurted out, "My cousin fancies her," which wasn't much of a stretch of the truth.
Leana wasn't fond of her cousin.
That should be reason enough.
Leana gasped in surprise, a mix of belief and doubt crossing her face. "Really?" Arthur was into Violet Devereux?
Then... why was she at the Brady Hall apartment that day?
Why did she feel so skeptical?
"Of course, it's true," Loraine Plahn continued her tale with conviction. "You can ask my cousin if you don't believe me. But I'd advise you to know your place and not actually confront them. They're heavy hitters, after all. My cousin doesn't know what you did to Violet yet, and she hasn't told him. But if he ever finds out, you'll be the one crying about it!"
Leana frowned thoughtfully, contemplating Loraine's words. Loraine wasn't the type to lie, so after a moment, she believed her. "I got it. I won't mess with her."
"Good," Loraine sighed in relief, having averted potential trouble for herself.
But if this ever came to light, it wouldn't be her problem anymore.
The weekend came around again, and everyone was off work.
Max wanted to take Violet Devereux out to dinner, but she had excused herself, claiming she had plans with her girlfriends.
However, she couldn't avoid Brady Hall.
After he had helped her out with Aiden, she felt obligated to take him to dinner.
So, with the weekend upon her, Violet decided to settle the score by inviting him out as soon as possible.
Once they dined, they'd be even.
With that plan in mind, Violet woke up early, brushed her teeth, and quickly texted Brady Hall: "Mr. Hall, are you free for lunch today? I'd like to make good on my promise to treat you."
Her message was barely sent when she swiftly received a reply: "Ms. Devereux, come to my apartment."
Such an ambiguous message from Brady Hall made Violet raise her eyebrows. Why on earth did he want her over at his apartment early in the morning?
"Mr. Hall, I meant lunch, around 11:30 AM."
Brady Hall: "Ms. Devereux, I plan to eat at home."
Violet Devereux: "???"
"What do you mean, Mr. Hall?"
Brady Hall: "I've made myself clear. Eating at home, so come over now."
Violet was utterly baffled: "Breakfast? If serving breakfast counts as returning the favor, Mr. Hall, then you have to stick to your word."
Brady Hall: "Fine."
Lying in his navy-blue bed, the handsome man's lips curled into a slight, unconscious smile. She was coming after all—did she really think she could avoid being swept into his world?
