Chapter 750 He Seems to Mind That You Rejected Him
Violet seized the moment when Darian seemed ready to discuss business and quickly pulled out the pre-prepared contract. "Mr. Voss, we at JK would love to have you on board. If you join us, we promise you won't be disappointed."
"Of course, we understand you run your studio independently and won't be tied down to one company. What we mean is, we hope to collaborate with your studio."
"We're also prepared to offer higher compensation than other companies at this time."
Darian took the contract and flipped through it nonchalantly, showing little interest.
The offered price didn't faze him; with his status in the design world, money wasn't an issue.
He was after something else entirely.
"Mr. Voss, if you find the price unsuitable, feel free to name your terms. As long as it's within JK's capabilities, we can accommodate you," Violet added quickly, worried he might dismiss the million-dollar annual salary they were offering.
Darian closed the contract, his demeanor as relaxed as ever, his expression unreadable. "I'll think about it."
"Great, take your time," Violet replied, relieved he hadn't outright rejected them.
"By the way, I'm starving. Let's eat," Darian said, changing the subject.
Max quickly signaled the waiter to come over and take their order, while Violet took a sip of water to calm her nerves.
Darian's earlier comments had left her feeling awkward, unsure how to respond.
During the meal, Darian refrained from bringing up any old stories, and the conversation stayed focused on work.
Once they finished, Darian and his assistant left first.
Max and Violet followed, watching him get into his car before heading to their own.
Before getting in, Max voiced his concern. "Violet, I have a feeling Darian might not want to work with JK. We shouldn't get our hopes up too high."
"What makes you think that?" Violet asked, recalling that Darian hadn't completely dismissed their proposal.
"He seems to hold a grudge about you turning him down," Max said, understanding how men think.
Though he couldn't be certain that someone of Darian's stature would still care about such things, his intuition told him it wasn't that simple.
Max himself had once had feelings for Violet and had been rejected, and he knew how hard it was to let go.
"How could that be? A man of his status wouldn't hold onto something like that," Violet insisted, preferring to believe Darian's reminiscing was just a coincidence. "Even if he doesn't want to work with us, it wouldn't be because of that. It's not how a mature man behaves."
Max nodded, acknowledging his gut feeling without pressing further. "If he wants to collaborate, great. If not, we'll move on."
"Alright, let's head back to the office."
"Sure," Max said, opening the car door for her.
After Violet got in, he joined her and remembered the recent rumors about Brady.
Concerned, he asked, "Violet, have you heard the rumors about Mr. Hall?"
"I have, but it's all a misunderstanding," she replied, knowing the truth about that night better than anyone.
"Good, I'm glad to hear that," Max said, feeling reassured. All he wanted was for her to be happy.
