"Ethan, I really don't need it," Violet said, feeling a bit overwhelmed. She couldn't just accept the shares they were offering her.
She hadn't planned on acknowledging James as her father.
Once she did, everything would change.
For instance, what would happen to James's family? Ethan seemed reasonable and well-mannered, not the type to sabotage her once he knew about her relationship with James.
But what about James's wife?
Violet had no idea what she was like. Would she cause a big fuss over this?

"You can call me brother," Ethan said with a gentle smile, his eyes filled with affection for his newfound sister. He paused, seemingly aware of her concerns, and added, "I know what you're thinking and why you're hesitating. Don't worry, my dad's authority is solid, and my mom won't have any objections."
"This is all a bit sudden. Can you give me some time?" Violet asked, struggling to accept a new father and brother so quickly.
"Sure, there's no rush to acknowledge him. But regarding the shares, my dad is serious about it. It's also compensation for you and your mom," Ethan explained.
Mentioning her mom made Violet fall silent for a moment, her mind flooded with emotions.
Her mom had been so deeply in love with James back then, so why did she suddenly marry Gerry?
Why didn't she want to go to Eldoria with James?
These were questions she would never have answers to.
"By the way, my dad would like you to visit him if you have time. He wants to do a paternity test to make things clear for the Lawson family," Ethan said.
Violet nodded. "I'll find some time to visit him."
"That's great, thank you," Ethan said warmly.
"No need to thank me," Violet replied. Visiting James wouldn't take much time.
The main issue was that her relationship with James felt strange. She should have hated him, logically speaking.
Hated him for walking out after that argument with her mother, which ultimately led to her marrying Gerry instead.
But when she saw James, she couldn't muster any anger.
Maybe it was all in the past, and she was happy now. She didn't want to live in hatred.
Life was short, and she didn't want to waste it on anger and resentment.
After spending some more time in the hallway, they returned to James's hospital room. James tasted Violet's homemade soup for the first time and happily finished it all.
His stomach was full, but he looked blissfully content. Ethan couldn't help but feel a bit exasperated.
It was clear that their dad really wanted to acknowledge Violet.
Ethan had no objections, but he wondered how their mom would react to the news of James having another daughter.

Juniper had been busy preparing a big surprise for her brother and dad, completely unaware that her dad was hospitalized.
