Brady and Matilda exchanged a few more words before heading off to freshen up. Then Brady started calling Violet.
Violet was in the car with Emily at that moment; she had taken the morning off to go to the hospital for a check-up.
It was to finally confirm if she was really pregnant.
Brady didn't know she had taken the day off and said tenderly, "I'm leaving today. Wait for me back home."
"Why so soon? Are you leaving today?" Violet thought he would leave in a few days.
"Yes, I want to handle things over there quickly so I can come back and marry you," Brady said gently.
His deep, tender voice came through the phone, making Violet's heart flutter.
"Just come back safely first."
"Don't worry, I will definitely come back safely. I can't bear to leave you all behind," Brady said with an unconscious smile.
It was strange; he had never been so afraid of death before.
Maybe it was because he now had a child and a wife.
Any little disturbance became his vulnerabilities. He wasn't afraid of death itself, but he was afraid of not being able to protect them.
He would do his best to stay safe, just to see her and the child again.
"Got it, I'll wait for you."
"Okay."
After the call ended, Emily, who was driving, said enviously, "Violet, Brady is really great. I always thought he was good. You just had too many concerns; otherwise, you two would have been together long ago and wouldn't have had to wait so long."
Emily probably hadn't experienced the concerns of having a child, so she thought Violet should have agreed back then.
Violet smiled helplessly and said, "I can't be as carefree as you, getting together with him so quickly. I have kids to think about, and I was afraid they would take them away."
That was one of the reasons she had always rejected him.
"You are right." Emily nodded. When it came to kids, she was on Violet's side. "What I mean is, if you didn't have kids, you might have been together sooner."
"Even then, it wouldn't have been soon. I don't want to be out of my league," Violet said with a deliberate huff.
"But if it's confirmed that you're pregnant this time, you'll marry him, right?" Emily knew her little thoughts.
"Yes, I will." After everything they had been through, she no longer wanted to be pretentious.
She wanted to love him and be with him for a lifetime.
"That's great. Looks like I need to prepare a big gift," Emily said, happy for her after getting a definite answer.
"No need for a big gift. When you find a boyfriend, I'll give you a big gift," Violet said, turning to look at her.
Emily had been back for so long, and Violet hadn't heard of her dating or liking anyone.
"If you say so, then I need to hurry up. I want your big gift," Emily said with a smile.
"Alright."
Soon, they arrived at a public hospital's obstetrics and gynecology department in the city.
After getting out of the car, they went for the check-up.
During the check-up, the doctor said gently, "Congratulations, you're two weeks pregnant. But it's still too early. Come back for a follow-up in three months."
Violet nodded obediently.
She was indeed pregnant. She had to tell Brady.
"Doctor, can I take a picture of this image?" Violet wanted to capture the baby's heartbeat.
The female doctor initially wanted to say that hospital regulations didn't allow it, but seeing her so eager, she made an exception and recorded a video of the fetal heartbeat for her.
After recording, she handed it to Violet. "Here you go."
Violet got up from the bed, watched the video, and felt even more tender.
