Chapter 259 Don’t Talk Nonsense

Upon the utterance of Brady's words, the celebratory clamor that had previously enveloped the Devereux family abruptly ceased. They stood frozen, their faces twisted in shock, their eyes wide as they stared at Brady.

Gerry, without a moment's hesitation, felt a surge of anxiety and contemplated surrendering Violet. Brady was not a man they could afford to cross. If they didn't give up Violet, he would undoubtedly seek her out, and a single word from him could spell catastrophe for the entire Devereux family. As a businessman, Gerry was acutely aware of this. Before he could articulate his thoughts, Anna, perceptive of the escalating tension, interjected, "Mr. Hall, I'm afraid I don't follow. Violet is no longer affiliated with our family. Why would you request her from me?" "You're lying!" Emily countered sharply, "I personally brought Violet back. I suggest you hand her over now unless you want to face Mr. Hall's wrath." "Why would we ever seek to provoke Mr. Hall?" Anna responded, her tone steady and unflustered. Gerry was on the brink of confessing to Brady when Emily and Anna's exchange was interrupted by Brady's voice, deep and commanding, echoing throughout the room. "Mrs. Devereux, I would prefer not to have to search for her myself." "Mr. Hall, I assure you, we do not have her," Anna responded with due respect.

"If that is the case, may I conduct the search myself? Violet is important to me," Brady stated, his voice icy and foreboding. "I'm sure you're well aware of my reputation. If anyone dares harm my woman, they will not escape my wrath." Lilian, previously lost in her thoughts, was jolted back to reality. She struggled to comprehend what she was hearing. Brady was asserting that Violet was his woman.

Lilian found it hard to believe, especially considering her own machinations against Violet. Yet Brady's expression was gravely serious.

A pang of pain shot through Lilian's heart. She wondered, ‘Could Brady truly harbor feelings for Violet? Could Violet really stand a chance to be with Brady?’ Lilian was unwilling to accept this possibility. She clenched her fists and confronted Brady. "Mr. Hall, how could you choose Violet over me? She was once..." Before Lilian could complete her sentence, Brady, who had been seated motionless on the sofa, suddenly grew visibly impatient. He tapped his fingers, and within moments, several bodyguards who had been shadowing him stormed into the Devereux mansion. Brady's eyes narrowed as he commanded, "Today, we must find Violet."

The bodyguards immediately began their search.

Anna, her anxiety mounting, protested, "Mr. Hall, it's illegal to conduct a search without a warrant." Brady raised an eyebrow and sneered, "Is it illegal to hide my woman?"

Anna was rendered speechless, her face draining of color. She looked at the man seated on the sofa, his gaze piercing. What was she to do? If Violet were found, the Devereux family would undoubtedly face dire consequences.

As Anna was pondering her next course of action, Brady's attention was drawn to a photograph on the table. He picked it up, and before he could inquire, Lilian blurted out, "Mr. Hall, Violet is engaged to the man in this photograph. He will be her husband. Violet and you can't..."

Before Lilian could complete her sentence, Anna could no longer contain herself. She slapped Lilian across the face, reprimanding her sternly, "Enough of this nonsense. What do you suppose Mr. Hall will think?"

"Grandma, I..." This was the first time Anna had struck Lilian, and her eyes immediately welled up with tears as she cradled her stinging cheek and began to cry.

"Take her to her bedroom, and make sure she causes no further trouble." Anna gestured to Eileen, who understood her intent.

As Eileen led Lilian back to her bedroom, she discreetly made her way to the basement to check on Violet.
