Chapter 195 The Object of His Desire
Violet lingered on the balcony, her gaze lost in the ceaseless stream of traffic below. Gradually, the turmoil in her mind began to subside.
"Who could be orchestrating this against me?" she pondered aloud. The master tailors from the studio were not the culprits. Could it be someone from the company? Yet, there was no tangible evidence to cast suspicion on anyone.
Deciding it was time to rendezvous with Mr. Green, she collected herself and retreated into the living room. Her face, however, was riddled with signs of worry. Misinterpreting Violet's distress, Hellen approached her. "Violet, are you alright? Are you still troubled by Brady's visit last night?"
"It's nothing," Violet assured Hellen with a strained smile, not wanting to burden her friend with her own worries. "I'll resign soon, and we'll move out. Brady's the CEO. He won't continue to bother me when I’m gone."
Hellen nodded in agreement. "Then come wash up and join us for breakfast."
"Okay." Violet affectionately patted her babies' cheeks before excusing herself to freshen up.
Violet didn't join the others for breakfast. Instead, she attended to her babies, feeding them the last of her breast milk. She knew the time to wean them off was fast approaching.
However, the disturbing news from Max that morning had her distracted. She almost choked little Nicole with a spoonful of milk, snapping her back to reality as she quickly comforted her coughing child.
After ensuring the twins were fed, Violet hastily gulped down a few mouthfuls of plain oatmeal before descending the stairs.
Upon reaching the ground floor, she found a text from Brady waiting for her.
Brady: [I'll pick you up at 8.]
Her slap from the previous night hadn't incensed him as she had anticipated. Brady seemed to be exercising an unusual amount of patience with her lately, probably because it was rare for a woman to captivate his interest as much as she had.
He didn't hold the slap against her, it seemed.
Violet glanced at her phone but felt no compulsion to respond. She exited the message screen and made her way to the apartment complex's iron gate to await Mr. Green.
She waited for approximately 15 minutes. As the clock neared 8, Max's Audi finally arrived.
The car came to a halt before her, and Max rolled down the window. "Had breakfast yet?" he asked the woman standing outside.
"I already ate," Violet replied, her mind elsewhere.
"I haven't had anything. Is there a place nearby that serves breakfast?" Max inquired as he exited the car.
"There's a deli next door in the grocery store. That's about it," Violet guided the way.
Walking side by side, Max noticed her worried expression. Sensing her anxiety about the morning's incident, he tried to reassure her. "I believe in you. Don't overthink it. Everything will be clear after the investigation."
Violet merely nodded in silence.
Unable to unravel the mystery herself, she could only hope that Max would provide some assistance.
They arrived at the grocery store where Max picked up a couple of sandwiches and a carton of milk. They then headed back to the car.
Just as they reached the vehicle, Brady's sleek black Bentley slowly pulled up. Its opulence drew the attention of the onlookers at the entrance of their apartment complex.
Luxury cars like this were a rare sight in their neighborhood.
Who could be arriving in such grandeur?
The gathering crowd of curious onlookers didn't bother Brady. His focus was solely on the woman bending to enter the Audi.
As the Audi began to pull away, Brady's lips tightened. "Follow that car," he commanded coldly.
'Does he not see all these men ogling her?'
'More accurately, they're ogling the woman he's set his sights on.'
Thus, the two cars proceeded, one trailing the other, along the main road downtown.
Unaware of Brady's pursuit, Violet remained in the Audi until they reached the Hall family's underground parking lot. As she exited the car, she finally noticed Brady.
Dressed in his customary black shirt and trousers, a luxury mechanical watch worth millions adorning his wrist, he looked strikingly handsome, sophisticated and elegant. He stood by his Bentley, having just disembarked.
Despite being the CEO, his mere presence exuded a powerful aura that Violet, standing three meters away, could strongly sense.
However, with her mind preoccupied by the leak of Loraine's engagement news, Violet wasn't in the mood to deal with him.
After casting a fleeting glance in his direction, she decided to return to the JK offices with Mr. Green to strategize their next move.
