Chapter 971 Taking Care of Your Girlfriend, Isn't It a Given?
Austin rushed back to his office, worried, only to find Emily sitting at his desk while Lucien watched her. But it seemed like Emily wasn't paying attention to Lucien.
Austin felt a bit relieved instantly.
Taking a deep breath, he walked over, his face quickly breaking into a smile. "Emily, sorry to keep you waiting."
"No worries, I just got here," Emily replied, standing up to give him his seat.
"Please, sit down. I'll grab some water for you and Mrs. Hall," Austin said warmly, his eyes gentle, as he went to pour the water.
Seeing how attentive and enthusiastic Austin was, Emily felt a pang of guilt. She had been thinking about Lucien just moments ago. How could she? Austin was so good to her.
He cared about her deeply. What more could she ask for?
Marriage wasn't just about dating; looks alone didn't matter.
Shouldn't she be with someone who loved her?
Feeling remorseful, Emily quickly said to Austin, "Mr. Roberts, you don't need to go to so much trouble. Violet and I just came to drop off something, and then we're heading to class."
"You're guests, besides, Mrs. Hall is a distinguished one," Austin replied, taking two disposable cups from the cabinet, filling them halfway. He handed one to Violet and then filled another for Emily.
When he handed the cup to Emily, Austin deliberately showed his possessiveness and care in front of Lucien. "Emily, be careful."
"Thank you," Emily said, feeling a warmth in her heart.
From now on, she shouldn't think about Lucien anymore. She should focus on her relationship with Austin.
"Taking care of my girlfriend is only right," Austin said softly, intentionally for Lucien to hear.
Sure enough, Lucien's face showed a hint of surprise upon hearing this.
Austin and Emily were together?
It sounded a bit surreal.
They seemed like complete opposites. How could they be together?
Lucien had worked with Austin for a while and knew him to be quite calculating in his dealings.
He had only been at the school for a month.
And he already wanted to become a permanent staff member.
But his academic level was far from sufficient for that.
So he often chatted with the principal, flattering him.
Luckily, the university's principal was Lucien's uncle, who had shared Austin's scheming nature with him. Lucien knew Austin wasn't as straightforward as he appeared.
He had an ambitious heart.
So, was he climbing up by getting close to Emily?
But Emily didn't seem like the type to accept just any man. Why would she agree to date him?
Lucien couldn't figure it out.
But his confusion didn't stop Emily from seemingly accepting Austin. She handed him a gift, saying, "Mr. Roberts, this is a token of my appreciation. Please accept it."
"Is this for me?" Austin was stunned, glancing at the logo on the gift bag.
His eyes lit up instantly.
It was a world-renowned watch brand. Though he had never bought one, he had browsed their websites and knew that even the cheapest watch from this brand cost at least $50,000.
Why would she buy such an expensive watch for him?
"Of course it's for you. Please accept it. I need to get to class," Emily said generously, placing the bag on the desk and preparing to leave.
Suddenly, Austin grabbed Emily's wrist and, in front of Lucien, asked, "Emily, could you put it on for me?"
