Chapter 656 He Wants to Give Her the Best Love
Ethan knew he couldn't hide the truth from his dad, so he didn't even try. He sat down next to James and said, "Yeah, I knew you came back to find Evelyn, so I followed you."
James let out a long sigh. "I wanted to handle this on my own."
It seemed like there was no way to keep this a secret anymore.
Ethan lowered his gaze slightly and gently held his dad's hand. "Dad, how were you planning to handle this on your own? If this gets out, it will hurt Mom and Evelyn, won't it?"
James shook his head. "Ethan, you're a good kid. I didn't want to burden you with this, but now... Evelyn is gone. And I know Violet might be my daughter. They've had a tough life all these years, and it breaks my heart. I feel like I owe them."
"Dad, what are you trying to say?" Ethan frowned slightly, looking at James.
"Actually, Evelyn was my first love. Your mom and I... our marriage was arranged by our families, but we weren't dating at the time." James's eyes grew misty as he recalled the past.
That was his youth and his first love.
It was his first romance.
"Dad, I don't get it. If Evelyn was your first love, then why am I older than Violet?" Ethan was confused.
James looked at his son, a bit helpless. "Before I came to Crestoria, our family threw a party. I got drunk and had no idea what happened. I didn't know your mom and I... well, she left quickly, so I thought nothing happened. Then I came to Crestoria and met Evelyn."
"That's where it all started," James said slowly, his eyes growing wetter. "But later, when I had to go back home, I wanted to bring Evelyn to Eldoria. She didn't want to come and married Gerry instead. I was so angry that I went back to Eldoria. When I got there, your mom showed me a positive pregnancy test. She was a few months along. So, we got married."
And because he was so mad at Evelyn, he never went back to find her.
He stayed angry for over 20 years.
By the time he returned, she was gone.
If he had come back sooner, maybe he could have seen her one last time.
But life didn't deal in 'what-ifs.' Once a moment's gone, it was gone for good.
"Dad, I understand now," Ethan said, finally grasping the situation. His emotions were mixed. "Do you love Mom?"
"After all these years, love isn't the point anymore. We're family," James said. He had given his best love to Evelyn and his sense of duty to Helen.
You couldn't have it all.
Ethan nodded.
James continued, "Ethan, Violet has had a tough life. I want to make it up to her. You don't mind, do you?"
Ethan smiled and shook his head. "No, she's my sister too. Whatever you want to give her, I won't mind." Ethan was never the petty type.
Even if James wanted to give the entire family fortune to Violet, Ethan wouldn't care.
He had the ability to make his own way.
Seeing his son so understanding, James felt relieved. "Ethan, thank you for understanding."
"These are your past issues. As the eldest son of the Lawson family, it's not my place to scheme."
James nodded and squeezed his son's hand. "Ethan, I plan to give Violet 20% of Lawson Corporation's shares to make up for what I owe her and her mother."
Twenty percent was no small amount.
Most people would object, but Ethan didn't care. From the moment he knew Violet was his sister, he wanted to give her the best.
Just like he did for Juniper.
