Chapter 194 The Ruin of Her Design Career
Perched on the edge of her apartment balcony, Violet combed her fingers through her slightly tousled hair, her other hand tapping her phone screen to dial Max's number.
The early morning breeze, cool and invigorating, brushed against her face, promising the start of a beautiful day.
However, the impending phone call was about to shatter the morning’s peace and tranquility.
After a few seconds of electronic connection, Max's voice, laced with urgency, echoed through the phone, "Violet, please tell me you didn't leak Loraine's engagement news and the photo of her wedding dress?"
Max's call was a reaction to an online gossip headline that had left him incredulous—"Renowned actress Loraine's engagement revealed, million-dollar custom wedding dress surfaces."
This sensational news had been trending since the break of dawn, stirring up the day's chatter.
Always an early bird, Max had a habit of keeping abreast of the news.
That's how he had stumbled upon the shocking headline and immediately reached out to Violet.
Loraine's engagement and her custom wedding dress had been closely guarded secrets. She had made it abundantly clear that they were not to be revealed.
JK Enterprises, where Violet worked, had always prided itself on its reputation, treating the protection of client privacy with utmost seriousness.
Yet, the article circulating on the internet pointed an accusing finger at Loraine's own dress designer as the source of the leak.
The insinuation was blatant. It seemed they were implying that Violet was the culprit.
However, Max, knowing Violet's character, found it hard to believe she was at fault. Perhaps it was an inadvertent mistake on her part or some other unforeseen circumstance.
Max didn't want to harbor doubts or suspicions about her. He had always held her in high regard, having witnessed her approach to work—she was not one to indulge in deceit or conspiracies.
Moreover, her design talent was unparalleled.
So, his call, tinged with mixed emotions, was merely to reaffirm his faith in her.
"What are you talking about, Mr. Green? How could I possibly breach a client's privacy?" Violet, oblivious to the news, was baffled by Max's questioning.
"Take a look at the online news when you can. Someone leaked Loraine's engagement and the wedding dress you designed for her," Max explained slowly, his voice heavy with concern. "Violet, I know you're not that kind of person."
With Max's explanation, Violet grasped the gravity of the situation, realizing she was being framed once again. Her brows furrowed into a deep frown as she asserted, word by word, "Mr. Green, I haven't disclosed anything about her."
'Isn't protecting a client's privacy the most basic professional ethic for a designer? Her professors had emphasized this repeatedly during her college days. How could she possibly make such an amateur mistake?'
"I know, I trust you," Max responded after a brief pause. "But the internet's calling out the designer by name, suggesting that someone leaked it intentionally. If this gets back to Loraine, she might take legal action against JK Enterprises or even you personally."
The possibility of Loraine suing her sent a wave of panic through Violet. The thought of prison and being separated from her two most cherished possessions was unbearable, but she was innocent. Her voice wavered involuntarily as she reached out to Mr. Green, desperate for guidance. "Mr. Green, what should I do? I didn't do it."
A lawsuit from Loraine could decimate her career as a designer. The stain of scandal would blacklist her from every design firm, rendering her credentials worthless.
‘How can I not worry?’ she pondered.
"Take it easy, Violet," Max's voice softened, sensing her distress. "Pack a bag. I'm coming to pick you up. This affects JK's reputation too. I won't just stand by. Don't worry, any blows to your reputation, we'll face it together."
Violet nodded through the phone, her anxiety abating slightly. "I understand, Mr. Green. I'll be ready and waiting downstairs shortly."
"Good. I'm on my way." Max hung up, quickly grabbed his briefcase, and set off for Violet's apartment.
