Chapter 250 A Simple Sketch of Violet
"Never mind, just pull yourself together," the assistant advised, leaning against the bathroom door with an air of nonchalance. Leana, combing her hair with a casual air, regarded her assistant with a blend of trust and skepticism. "What do you mean by 'never mind'? What did I do last night? Tell me." The assistant hesitated, her reluctance to speak rooted in the fear of inciting Leana's wrath and jealousy. Leana's fondness for Brady, a man who was both perfect and highly sought after by women, was well known. The crux of the matter, however, was whether Brady reciprocated her feelings. From the assistant's perspective, Brady seemed indifferent toward Leana. The previous night, the assistant had spotted a young, attractive woman in Brady's apartment. Uncertain if the woman was Brady's girlfriend, she chose to withhold this information, fearing the emotional turmoil it would cause Leana. "It's really nothing," the assistant insisted. Leana, however, was not easily fooled. She had noticed that her assistant's eyes would flicker when she lied.
Detecting this telltale sign, Leana challenged her, "You're still lying to me. Do you want to lose your job?" "No, I'm not," the assistant stammered, feeling utterly cornered. She had only been trying to protect Leana, hadn't she? "You'd do well not to lie to me again. You've been my assistant for quite some time. Do you believe I'm oblivious to your thoughts?" Leana's tone was stern, her hands planted firmly on her hips. "Don't delude yourself into thinking that your lies will go unnoticed. I have numerous ways to uncover the events of last night. Would you prefer to wait for me to investigate and subsequently terminate your employment, or would you rather confess now?" Leana's threat sent a wave of fear through her assistant. The thought of losing her job was unbearable. After a moment's hesitation, she acquiesced, confessing, "You had too much to drink and sought out Mr. Hall.""And then?" Leana's eyes widened in anticipation. Something significant must have occurred the previous night! She stared at her assistant, eager to learn what had transpired after her encounter with Brady. 'Did I kiss him?' The mere thought of possibly having kissed Brady in her inebriated state sent her heart racing. Brady was the epitome of Prince Charming for many young women, even surpassing Arthur in popularity. Leana's cheeks flushed at the thought, but her daydream was abruptly shattered by her assistant's next revelation. "Leana, I've told you everything. But you must promise not to be angry, okay?"
"Go on."
"You got drunk last night and went to find Mr. Hall. Then you hugged him, but Mr. Hall pushed you away because there was a girl in his apartment," the assistant said cautiously as a layer of sweat formed on her forehead. Indeed, any matter involving Brady required careful handling. At this revelation, Leana's countenance darkened considerably, her tone growing heavy. "What did you say? There was a girl in his apartment? Who? Do you know her?" Leana knew that Brady had never had a girlfriend.
Given his high standards and desirable attributes, only a select few women could possibly catch his eye.
She thought, 'Why was there a woman in his apartment last night? Who could she be? If she was his girlfriend, wouldn't we all know? Could it be that he sought out a model to satisfy his desires? But that is impossible.' Everyone was aware of Brady's upright character. The more Leana thought about it, the more nervous she became. "I don't know," the assistant replied. She had never seen Violet, and because she was not part of the social circle, she wouldn't recognize her. "But you must remember what she looks like, correct?" Leana asked, seeing that her assistant was genuinely ignorant and not wanting to press her further. The assistant nodded. "I remember." "You have some skill in drawing. Sketch the woman you saw, and let me see," Leana instructed, directing her assistant to fetch a sheet of paper and a pencil. The assistant complied without protest, retrieving the sketch paper and pencil. She then proceeded to draw a simple sketch of Violet based on her recollection from the previous night. Upon completion, she handed the sketch to Leana.
Leana was shocked. She thought, ‘Isn’t this Violet?’
