Chapter 186 An Affection Beyond the Bounds of Romance
At long last, they found themselves at the doorsteps of The Caesar's Restaurant, a place celebrated for its exquisite Western cuisine.
Brady brought the car to a halt, and together, they disembarked.
The valet at Caesar's, catching sight of Brady alighting from the Bentley, took note. Individuals of such caliber typically boasted an impressive lineage. It was not merely a matter of wealth. Moreover, the man was strikingly young.
The valet scurried over, his smile obsequious, eager to park Brady's luxurious vehicle.
Brady surrendered the keys and, arm in arm with Violet, made his way into the opulent interior of Caesar's restaurant.
By the window, Arthur was already seated, awaiting her arrival.
Arthur was a man of stature, lean and handsome in his unique way. He may not have been on par with Brady, but he exuded a vibrant, cosmopolitan charm.
Violet's gaze flitted between the two men before she turned to Brady, "I'm off to my date, Brady," she declared, hoping he would understand the implication. However, Brady was not one to easily relinquish a woman he desired to another man. He smirked, "That's your taste?" His tone was laced with disdain for Violet's choice, and he had no intention of stepping aside.
Violet, left speechless, rolled her eyes at him. She had no desire to engage in a dispute. After all, she was on the verge of resigning. Why waste words? Without further ado, she strode over to Arthur.
Brady remained where he stood, his eyes narrowed as he watched them. He then sauntered over to a nearby table, his fingers drumming a rhythmic beat on the tabletop as he observed Violet on her supposed date. Violet was well aware of his predatory gaze but chose to disregard it.
Taking her seat, she greeted Arthur with a soft, "Hello Arthur, I'm Violet, Emily's good friend. Have you been waiting long? I apologize, the traffic was rather heavy." She chose not to mention the delay caused by the CEO of the Hall family.
"I've just arrived myself," Arthur responded, his gaze appraising Violet. She was even more stunning than his cousin had described. His eyes betrayed his admiration as he said, "Miss Devereux, it's a pleasure to meet you."
Violet nodded, a hint of nervousness evident. It was somewhat uncomfortable without Emily's presence, especially since it was her first encounter with Arthur. "Don't be nervous. Emily told me a lot about you, and I'm here to help," Arthur reassured her, noticing her unease. He was more considerate and understanding than Max, not to mention down-to-earth and approachable.
Violet felt comfortable in his presence. Her affection for him was more familial than romantic. "Thanks for offering to help, Arthur," Violet expressed her gratitude sincerely.
Arthur responded with a casual smile. "It's no big deal, but sorting out your mom's estate can get complicated. We'll need to gather some evidence, which means I might have to check in with you quite often, if that’s okay with you?"
"Sure, whenever I'm free, you can count on me," Violet replied, her fondness for him deepening. The saying about doing business with acquaintances rang true. They didn’t judge you by your background or give you the runaround.
Arthur picked up the menu lying on the edge of the table and offered it to Violet. "Shall we start ordering?" Violet accepted the menu but couldn't help but inquire, "When is Emily getting here?"
"She's not coming. It’s just us dining tonight," Arthur replied nonchalantly. Violet paused, a wave of awkwardness washing over her. Had Emily orchestrated this intentionally? How mortifying.
