Chapter 697 They Want to Ruin Her Reputation and Drag Her to Hell
"But Dad, Mom, she..." Juniper tried to speak up for Helen, her voice trembling.
She couldn't stand seeing Helen so upset; it broke her heart.
Ethan quickly cut her off, "Juniper, let Dad rest. Whatever's going on between Mom and Dad, they need to work it out themselves, okay?"
James had just recovered and couldn't afford to get angry or too emotional. Otherwise, the next surgery might not go as smoothly for him.
Even though Helen had made mistakes, Ethan knew James well enough. After so many years of marriage, it was unlikely they'd stay estranged forever. They just needed time to heal. So, it was best to leave it to them and time. He and Juniper should stay out of it.
"Alright," Juniper wisely decided to drop the subject and let James rest.
Helen, seeing James ignore her, felt a painful lump in her throat. She had to step out to catch her breath, her eyes red with unshed tears.
In the hallway, Ethan followed her out. He knew Helen was hurting, so he tried to comfort her, "Mom, don't be upset. Things are what they are now. Maybe give Dad some time?"
Helen wanted to give James time, but she feared James wouldn't be willing, so she tearfully told Ethan, "Ethan, your dad hates me now. He won't give me another chance."
"Of course he will. You two have been together for so many years, and you genuinely regret what happened. I believe Dad will forgive you," Ethan gently wiped the tears from Helen's eyes, trying to reassure her.
"Ethan, do you think so? Will your dad forgive me?"
Ethan nodded, "Yes, I think so. So don't be too upset."
Though he was just guessing. Whether James would forgive her depended on her actions.
Especially since this involved Evelyn. Ethan thought it might take a long time for James to forgive. But Helen was his mom, so he had to comfort her for now.
Helen bit her lip, her eyes reddening further, the pain in her heart almost unbearable. "I was too greedy before, and now I'm paying for it."
"Ethan, I want to visit Evelyn's grave. I need to apologize to her in person."
"I'll arrange it."
"Okay."
"By the way, I have something to take care of later. You and Juniper stay with Dad," Ethan checked the time. Eileen's family should be starting their attack on Violet soon, and he needed to help.
"What is it?" Helen wiped her eyes and asked.
"It's about Violet. I'll help out and explain everything when I get back," Ethan didn't waste any more time and left.
At that moment, in a hotel conference room surrounded by reporters, Eileen's family from out of state had all gathered for the press conference. This included Eileen's elderly parents, her brother, and her brother's daughter.
They had been living in another city, and every time Eileen contacted them, she said everything was fine. But who knew, within a year, Eileen and Lilian—one was dead, the other in prison. And the culprit was Violet.
How could Eileen's family swallow this? Especially after Eileen sent them the recording of her being whipped. When they heard it, they were furious enough to want to kill Violet. So, at this press conference, they were determined to bring Violet down.
Violet had married into the Hall family and was living a life of luxury, while Eileen and Lilian suffered terribly.
How could they let Violet enjoy her life as a wealthy socialite? They wouldn't stand for it. They wanted to ruin her, drag her down to hell with them, and avenge Eileen and Lilian.
Eileen's brother, Daniel Devereux, was especially enraged, his expression dark with anger. He had always doted on his sister Eileen. When she married into the Devereux family, he thought she would live a stable, affluent life.
But last year, she had called him, saying she would visit, and now she was dead. The Devereux family would avenge this.
