Chapter 198 A Threat to Her Design Career
"See to this," Brady commanded, casting a final, lingering glance at the young woman beside him. The public setting was far from ideal for intimate discourse, so he swiftly ushered his assistant towards the elevator.
The young man who had been forcibly restrained by the bodyguards would be dealt with by the police.
Once Brady had departed, the underground parking lot returned to its customary tranquility.
Max turned to Violet, his countenance radiating a gentle chivalry. "Violet, don't fret. I'll handle this. Concentrate on your work."
Her worry was inevitable. This was a grave matter that, if neglected, could spell disaster for her burgeoning design career. However, her only recourse was to maintain her composure and respond, "Very well."
Loraine's fame was considerable. The morning's news had rapidly spread across the internet. Countless marketing accounts, gossip magazines, and even Facebook were abuzz with Loraine's engagement story.
Some had even managed to unearth details about her elusive fiancé—a young, successful CEO of a prominent investment bank in the States, descended from Australian immigrants. He was handsome, affluent, and accomplished—a prize catch by any measure.
Fortunately, they had yet to discover his photographs. Had they done so, Loraine's volatile temperament would have surely resulted in an explosive reaction.
Nevertheless, this incident had a profound impact on her mental state. What should have been a joyous announcement had been marred by malicious comments from netizens. They accused her of deceit, of feigning singlehood while secretly engaged. They questioned her motives for appearing on a dating show. The vitriol was relentless, and even her loyal fans began to abandon her. She felt besieged, powerless to retaliate.
Loraine had initially planned to subtly hint at her engagement, waiting for the perfect moment to make the official announcement. However, Violet's premature leak had disrupted her plans, to the point where Loraine couldn't bear to log into Facebook.
The backlash was severe, with people branding her a fraud. Despite her indifference towards the entertainment industry, Loraine was passionate about her work and wasn't prepared to retreat from her career. Ultimately, the blame fell on Violet.
Loraine was livid, but she knew she couldn't afford to direct her anger at Violet, not with Brady's evident favoritism towards her.
Loraine was left to bear the brunt of the consequences.
Her fiancé's attempts at consolation, assuring her that the exposure was inevitable since they were planning to announce their marriage anyway, did little to alleviate her distress. This was not the way she had envisioned the revelation. She had planned for a formal announcement via Facebook.
"It was supposed to be so romantic. A girl's engagement and wedding are once-in-a-lifetime events." She didn't want it to be half-hearted. That's why the whole situation was particularly upsetting for her.
But men's perspectives truly differ from women's. They seem to think it doesn't matter, whereas, for her, it was entirely different.
Finding no comfort in her fiancé's words, she was grateful when Leana came to console her.
Leana embraced her, saying, “Don’t be upset. The cat's out of the bag now, and there’s no undoing that. Why not just hold a press conference and come clean? It’ll be beneficial for you.”
“Stay strong. Your fans will still adore you.”
Loraine sighed: “The main issue is, I participated in a reality dating show last time and had a publicity stunt with another actor.”
“That's not a big deal, in this business, everything is make-believe, don't the fans understand that?” Leana, peeling an orange for her, said, “But, this was leaked by Violet, what’s her problem?”
“Why is Arthur interested in her?” Leana, still oblivious to the fact that Violet and Arthur were a couple, spoke disdainfully, “It’s rather repugnant.”
“I don't want to discuss her.” Despite Violet having designed a wedding dress that perfectly met her expectations, and her love for it, this incident had greatly irked her. Even if Violet was the woman Brady was smitten with, she now harbored resentment.
She had no desire to invite Violet to her bachelorette getaway, but Leana was still unaware of Violet’s connection to Brady. This made Loraine feel a pang of guilt towards her friend.
