Chapter 256 This Woman Really Worries Him

In the corridor, Arthur found himself rooted in place, his gaze lingering on Quentin as he descended in the elevator. He was left with a disquieting sense of unease, having only caught fragments of Quentin's hushed phone conversation. He wrestled with the nagging worry that he might have misinterpreted the situation. Dismissing the thought, Arthur returned to the sanctuary of his office, where he was soon joined by Brady. Arthur adjusted his tie and approached Brady's half-ajar office door, rapping lightly against the wood. "Fancy grabbing dinner tonight?" he proposed. Brady glanced at his wristwatch, a playful glint in his eyes. "I'm more in the mood for a game," he responded. Arthur chuckled, his tone light and teasing. "It's been a while since we played. Weren't you busy chasing after Violet? Why invite me instead?" Brady's expression sobered, a hint of melancholy creeping into his voice. "She's unavailable. I think she's avoiding me again." Arthur's features hardened at the mention of Violet's name. She was missing, as Quentin had mentioned.

Brady picked up on Arthur's sudden seriousness, his brow furrowing in concern. "What's the matter? You seem preoccupied all of a sudden." Arthur's voice was grave as he shared Quentin's revelation. "Quentin mentioned something about Violet earlier. She's missing." He suggested, "Perhaps you should reach out to her family for confirmation." "I'll do that," Brady agreed, "We can reschedule dinner." "Go on, then. Call me if you need anything," Arthur urged, not wanting to delay him any further. Despite his earlier nonchalance, Brady's feelings for Violet were palpable. He nodded, his gaze intense, before taking his leave. Upon departing Arthur's company, Brady went straight to Violet's apartment. Hellen, initially hesitant, allowed him entry once she heard of Violet's disappearance, her face paling in alarm. As the door swung open, two children looked at Brady with a mix of shyness and curiosity. They soon broke into a run, throwing their arms around his legs in a warm embrace. Their mother had cautioned them against getting too close to Brady, but they had grown fond of him, charmed by his kindness and the exciting toys he often brought them. Brady felt a pang of warmth as the children clung to him, but he quickly pushed the sentiment aside. "I'll go look for her. I'll keep you updated." Brady assured Hellen. "Please, Mr. Hall, you must find Violet," Hellen said, her eyes red and teary. "Don't worry. I'll bring Violet back safely," Brady said, patting the heads of the two children before taking his leave. Violet's disappearance was now a reality. Without wasting a moment, Brady dialed his assistant to initiate an investigation. Once the call ended, Brady's thoughts drifted to Emily, Violet's close friend. Linda had mentioned that Violet had left with Emily after work. Brady quickly found Emily's number and dialed it. After several rings, Emily finally picked up. "Emily, did Violet leave with you?" Brady asked, his voice heavy with concern. "No," Emily denied, reluctant to involve him. "Emily, Violet is missing, isn't she?" Brady's voice grew sterner, causing Emily to falter. "I can review the surveillance footage from the cameras outside my company. I'll easily find out who Violet left with. Do you want me to do that?" Emily fell silent, unable to deceive Brady any longer. "Yes, she asked me to take her to the Devereux family, but they've hidden her," she confessed. Once Emily finished speaking, Brady responded with a terse, "I see," before abruptly ending the call. He was left with a sinking feeling. 'Violet's making me worry again,' he thought.
