Chapter 252 A Taste of Torment
The Hall family's car was parked not far from the entrance, nestled beside Emily's gleaming Maserati. Violet, clutching her bag, made a beeline for the car. As she swung open the door, Emily's gaze was immediately drawn to the bag in Violet's grasp. "Where did you manage to get this?" Emily questioned, her voice laced with surprise. "It's brand new, and only three have been released on the official website, all pre-ordered. I can hardly believe you've got your hands on one."Violet gently closed the door and passed the bag to Emily, a helpless smile playing on her lips. "Do you really think I could afford such a luxury?" she retorted. "It's really expensive, around $100,000." Emily quickly deduced that Violet's salary wouldn't stretch to cover such an expense. "And who was generous enough to gift it to you?" Emily probed. "Brady," came Violet's reply, her thoughts a whirlwind of confusion. "I'm seriously contemplating resignation," she confessed. Brady's relentless pursuit was stirring up fears of losing Henry and Nicole to him, a thought that was driving her to the brink of insanity. "I understand," Emily consoled, placing a comforting hand on Violet's back. "You're free to resign whenever you feel ready. My door will always be open to you." Violet nodded her appreciation. "Thank you.""You're welcome. Have you packed everything?" Emily asked, handing back the bag and starting the car. "If you have, you're welcome to move in with me."
Violet blushed at the offer. "Everything is packed, but I still feel it's inappropriate.""Nonsense," Emily chuckled. "Your company will brighten the place up. Don't overthink it. Let's deal with your resignation first," she advised. Violet nodded in agreement. She had only three days left to complete the design for Grace’s coat. Time was ticking away faster than she had anticipated. Violet decided to put her worries aside and concentrate on the tasks at hand. The thought of meeting Anna later was already souring her mood, but she knew she had to endure it for her mother's sake. Before long, the car was pulling up to the former Devereux’s villa. It had been nearly two years since Violet was expelled from the place, and she hadn't returned since.
Gazing at the now somewhat dilapidated white two-story villa, Violet was lost in a sea of memories. This was where she had spent her childhood, and it was impossible not to feel a pang of nostalgia, tainted with a layer of revulsion. After a moment's pause, Violet turned to Emily, who was still seated in the car, and said, "Wait here for me. If they don't discuss my mother's situation, I'll be back soon." Emily nodded in understanding and gestured for her to go in. She then settled back into the car. Violet went into the villa to confront Anna.
Inside the dimly lit living room, Anna, clad in a crisp white suit, sat sternly on the sofa, awaiting Violet's arrival. Flanking her were her stepmother, Eileen, and her father, Gerry. Two burly men stood guard on either side of the sofa, factory workers that Anna had specifically summoned to catch Violet and lock her up.
Anna's gaze drifted to a photograph displayed on the glass table before the sofa. The image captured a young, overweight man clad in a red short-sleeved shirt. This man was Ethan, the second son of the Stephond family, who was paralyzed.
Now 30, Ethan was bedridden and dependent on others for care. Despite the Stephond family's wealth, no socialite would willingly choose to marry him.
Anna had devised a plan to marry Violet to Ethan so that Violet wouldn’t be able to compete with Lilian for Brady. It would also serve as a harsh lesson, teaching Violet the rules of the Devereux family. Since Violet had dared to humiliate her in public, Anna was determined to send Violet to the Stephond family, where she would be subjected to a life of suffering.
