Chapter 1067 Mr. Roberts, You Are Not Fit to Be Human, I Was Blind to Set Up Emily with You
"Mr. Hart, don't get all worked up," Austin said with a sly grin. "It's really simple to make this all go away. Just give me another ten million bucks, and I'll vanish for good. What do you say?"
"Are you blackmailing me?" Douglas asked, trying to stay calm as he clutched his chest and glared at Austin.
Austin shook his head. "Mr. Hart, that's a bit harsh. How is this blackmail? Emily ruined my life. I'm only 28, my whole future's gone. I'm just asking for a measly ten million. That's not too much, right?"
After a pause, Austin seemed to remember something and added, "Oh, and I want that apartment you promised me. I need both, or else, unless you throw me in jail, I'll keep haunting Emily like a ghost."
Douglas was trembling with rage at this threat.
Juliet, standing nearby, quickly supported Douglas. "Mr. Hart, don't get angry. Your health is important."
"I know," Douglas nodded.
Juliet continued, "Mr. Hart, he just secretly took photos of our Hart Group's confidential information. I've already deleted them. We can call the police for this, including his extortion."
Hearing this, Douglas furrowed his brows and said, "Then call the police." He couldn't let himself be led by the nose.
Juliet nodded, "Mr. Hart, I'll call the police right away."
As soon as she finished speaking, Austin burst into a maniacal laugh, his face twisted in a way that made him look nothing like the refined professor he once seemed, but rather a complete scoundrel.
"Go ahead, call them. You haven't really agreed to my demands, so what do I have to fear? When I get out, I'll still come after Emily."
"Mr. Hart, a desperate man has nothing to lose."
"Bastard!" Douglas's face turned red with anger.
How could he have been so blind as to let his daughter go on a date with this man?
Douglas regretted it so much he felt like jumping into the Hudson River.
"So, either give me ten million dollars and we all live in peace, or you and Emily will never have a moment's rest," Austin said.
There was no way Douglas would give him ten million dollars. He could see clearly now that this man would never be satisfied.
As Douglas pondered how to handle this situation properly, his personal assistant knocked and entered. The assistant quickly whispered something in Douglas's ear and then stepped aside.
After hearing the whisper, Douglas's angry expression gradually calmed.
He then pointed to the security guards and said, "Take him out and call the police."
The security guards nodded and began to drag Austin out.
Austin, puzzled by Douglas's sudden lack of fear, frowned and said, "Mr. Hart, aren't you afraid the reporters downstairs will expose your dirty laundry?"
Before Austin could finish, Douglas slapped him across the face. "Mr. Roberts, you're not fit to be called a human. I was blind to let Emily date you and even more blind to treat you well."
Austin was stunned, his brows furrowing tightly.
Why wasn't Douglas afraid anymore?
What was going on?
Austin couldn't figure it out. But as the security guards dragged him to the ground floor, he saw it was completely empty—no reporters or media in sight.
Austin's frown deepened. No wonder Douglas wasn't scared; the reporters had been chased away.
But weren't those reporters always eager to dig up scandals about the rich?
Why did they leave?
As Austin pondered this, the security guards dragged him out of the Hart Group building and into a nearby underground parking lot, heading straight for a black Mercedes.
