Chapter 1029 Is She Not Worthy of a Good Man to Love Her?
The two of them drove back to New Future City from the outskirts, the scenery outside the car window unchanged.
But Emily couldn't bring herself to enjoy the view.
She felt miserable, like she was falling apart. She had always hoped to meet a good man, someone who would treat her well, cherish her, never lie to her, never neglect her, and certainly never hurt her.
But reality had a way of showing her the truth. She had been fooled again; Austin wasn't as good as he seemed.
He had used his fake kindness to win her trust, and even her parents' trust.
This was the first time Emily felt this heartbroken, even more so than when Lucien had rejected her. This time, she really wanted to get married.
But who could have known it would turn out like this?
Was she just not worthy of a good man who would love her?
The more Emily thought about it, the more suffocated she felt, her eyes instinctively turning red, tears welling up.
However, she didn't want to cry in front of Lucien. That would make her seem like a failure.
She had already been a joke to him once.
She didn't want to be a joke a second time.
So she tried her best to hold back her tears, but today, it was as if her tears were determined to defy her. No matter how hard she tried, they started to fall like rain, streaming down her face.
Each tear landed on the back of her hand.
Emily quickly turned her face away, wiping her tears with her hand.
But Lucien, sitting beside her, noticed her wiping her tears. Without a word, he pulled out two tissues from a box and handed them to Emily.
Emily didn't take them. She didn't need him to see her as a joke.
Stubbornly, she continued to look out the window, refusing to take the tissues.
Lucien, driving, couldn't help her wipe her tears, so he gently placed the tissues on her lap and continued driving.
As they neared New Future City, he finally spoke in a low, concerned voice, "Don't cry. This is a good thing for you. If you had stayed in the dark, you would have been hurt even more later."
"Mind your own business," Emily muttered, biting her lip.
She felt miserable and couldn't shake the feeling that Lucien was mocking her.
"Get some sleep when you get home. You'll feel better," Lucien said gently, not wanting to argue with her.
"Thanks for making me a joke today," Emily suddenly turned to look at the man beside her, her eyes red like a little rabbit's, and said angrily.
Lucien glanced at her, "If yelling at me makes you feel better, go ahead. But I still say, sleep on it, and break up with him."
Emily bit her lip, venting all her frustration on Lucien, "This is my personal business. I'll handle it myself. I don't need your advice."
"Fine, I won't advise you. Just remember to break up with him," Lucien said softly, accepting her accusations.
He knew she was angry and upset.
She could say anything in this state, so he didn't take it personally.
Once she had slept and calmed down, she would be fine.
His words effectively made Emily fall silent.
She didn't want to talk to him.
The rest of the drive was spent in mutual silence, neither of them saying much.
When Lucien finally dropped her off at the Hart Villa, and Emily was about to get out of the car, Lucien suddenly grabbed her wrist and said, "Get some good sleep, don't overthink it. I'll pick you up for Mr. Hall's party tonight."
"No need," Emily said, pulling her hand away quickly and getting out of the car.
Lucien sat in the car, his deep eyes watching her slender figure disappear into the Hart Villa before he started the car and drove away.
This time, he was really going to pursue Emily seriously.
