Chapter 1003
Camilla brought a bunch of snacks and toys that kids love, making the orphanage kids jump with joy.
After dropping off Cherry, Camilla should've left. But she couldn't bring herself to go, especially with Cherry's big, innocent eyes staring at her.
In about half an hour, a couple was coming to adopt a child. Cherry was so cute, she'd probably get picked.
Camilla really wanted to see who Cherry's new parents would be.
Cherry tugged at Camilla's sleeve and said, "Camilla, can you stay with me a little longer?"
Camilla picked her up. "Of course."
In a far-off corner, a four-year-old was hiding. It was Debra, who had just stormed off earlier.
She used to be everyone's favorite at the orphanage. But as Cherry grew, all the attention shifted to her.
Whenever people visited, they'd give the best treats and toys to Cherry first.
Every time a couple came to adopt, they wanted to take Cherry home.
But these couples always wanted boys. Over the years, even though Debra was jealous of Cherry, she never did anything drastic.
Until yesterday, when she heard Imogen say a couple wanted to adopt a healthy child, and they had to pick a girl since the boys all had physical disabilities.
Debra knew this was her chance. Early in the morning, she tricked Cherry into leaving, but now Cherry was back.
And she brought back the beautiful and kind Camilla.
Seeing Camilla and Cherry hugging and chatting, Debra's eyes burned with jealousy.
She walked out of the corner and waved. "Cherry, come here. I want to apologize to you."
Cherry quickly jumped off Camilla. "Camilla, I'm going to talk to Debra, wait for me."
As soon as they reached the corner, Debra pulled Cherry in.
"Feeling proud now?" Debra grabbed Cherry's collar and hissed. "Today, you'll get a mom and dad, and you'll leave the orphanage. Are you happy?"
Cherry's eyes widened. "Debra, didn't you say you wanted to apologize to me?"
"You should be the one apologizing to me!" Debra whispered angrily. "You're going to steal my parents and take away my home. You're the worst kid ever!"
"No, I'm not!" Cherry stepped back. "I don't want to leave the orphanage."
"You're lying!"
Debra yanked her hard. Every kid at the orphanage dreamed of having parents and a home.
"You're hurting me."
Cherry shrank back in fear.
Debra yanked again, and a necklace around Cherry's neck fell to the ground. It was a badge made of expensive crystal, with a dark cloud engraved on it.
Debra snatched it up. "This is mine now! If I get adopted, I'll give this badge back to you!"
With that, she turned and walked away.
