Chapter 229

The cool wine soothed Haley's throat, bringing some relief.

Ivan had finished his call and re-entered the room just as she got back to processing the simulation system.

"Once the sports car is integrated with this smart system, it achieves unity with the driver. Before you even react to the road conditions, the system has already intelligently switched driving modes..." her voice trailed off into a cough.

Her throat felt scratchy, so she took another sip of wine.

After a few more sentences, a peculiar heat swept through her body. It was getting warm here. However, she was only wearing an evening dress. It shouldn't be this hot.

"Ms. Haley, you don't seem to be feeling well," Louis observed with a blink, "Maybe we should call it a day?"

Haley felt a fine sweat on her forehead.

"I'll just head to the restroom for a moment. Please excuse me," she said, pressing her lips together.

She stood and left the room.

As soon as she was out, a large wave hit the ship, throwing off her balance almost to the point of falling. Stabilizing herself on the railing, she quickly made her way into the bathroom.

She turned on the cold tap and splashed water on the back of her neck, which helped to clear her head a bit.

When she wanted to return to the room, she felt a contraction in her lower abdomen, and a wave of heat rushed up. She knew this sensation all too well.

Five years ago, on the night of her eighteenth birthday, she had felt this same burning heat after drinking the glass of wine her stepmother had handed her.

She felt like she was drugged again.

The only thing she had to drink since boarding the ship was a glass of wine that Louis gave her.

'Did Louis drug the drink?' A chilling anger flashed across Haley's flushed face.

Taking a deep breath and clenching her fists, she steadied her high heels and walked back toward the room.

Suddenly, around the corner, a figure approached. She stumbled forward, colliding head-on with someone in her path.

A man in his thirties stood before her. He was a touch on the heavier side, wearing eyeglasses. He was a picture of success in the business world, if there ever was one.

"Sorry..." Haley croaked out an apology.

Those on this luxury cruise for the party weren't average folks, but the man didn't make a fuss. He simply turned to leave.

However, he froze at the sound of Haley's voice. His eyes locked on her face, a look of sheer disbelief spreading across his features. Her face was the spitting image of the woman who had appeared in his room five years ago.

In an instant, the man grabbed Haley's wrist. "I've finally found you."

Haley quickly yanked her hand away, but the sudden movement sent her head spinning, her legs threatening to buckle.

Leaning on the railing, she staggered back a step. The man stepped forward, arms outstretched, trapping her in a small enclave.

"Five years ago, you were brought to my room in a daze, just like this. I've been searching for you ever since..."

His hand slowly reached out, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

...

Inside the private room, Louis drained his glass and drawled lazily, "Ivan, she still hasn't come back. Do you think something happened?"

Ivan's brow furrowed slightly.

The woman had been gone for ten minutes now.
