Chapter 401 Family Dinner
Haley gazed at him in silence, his words from that morning echoed in her ears—
"I've never thought about fighting you for custody because you brought these four children into the world after a life-threatening ordeal. Taking the kids from you would be like taking your life. Would I do such a despicable thing?
"I want all four kids to be part of the Winston family, and you want them all by your side, too. So, if we were really together, the kids would have both Ivan and Haley, right?
"Haley, do you understand what I'm saying?"
Her heart fluttered slightly as she pressed her lips together. Exiting the car, her voice carried a cool edge. "How can you expect me to think it over in just one day?"
Ivan observed her quietly. "Okay, take your time."
He opened the back door and lifted Angela into his arms. "Did you miss me?"
Angela, shyly wrapping her arms around his neck, whispered, "Yes."
"Angela, come here," Haley said softly. "Ivan's injury on his right hand isn't healed yet. Don't wriggle around and bump it."
Taking Angela from him, Haley cradled her in her arms.
Ivan glanced at her sideways, feeling suddenly at peace.
As they approached the front door, Owen burst out like a joyful little frog.
Even Keith, who was usually reserved, followed them. Standing in front of Haley, he pressed his lips together and shyly called out to her.
Alfred stood in the doorway, his face creased with a few more lines of a smile at the sight of Keith's rare happiness...
Once inside, the children played on the climbing mats with their toys while Haley tied on an apron, ready to cook for them herself.
Her cooking skills were excellent, and tonight's meal was prepared with extra care as she sought to compensate for the motherly love Keith and Owen had missed over the years.
After making a soup and combining it with the dishes prepared by the Winston family's cook, the table was brimming with food.
"Wow, so much delicious food today!" Owen exclaimed eagerly.
Todd, holding Angela's hand, sat to her right and patiently tied a bib around her.
Keith glanced around, then settled beside Owen.
Haley took her seat to Todd's left, with Ivan beside her. Thus, the family of six was all seated on one side, leaving the opposite side empty.
Alfred, feeling somewhat helpless, touched his forehead. "Keith, why don't you move over here?"
"No, no, no, I want to sit next to Angela!" Owen shook his head emphatically.
Todd also shook his head gently. "I'm fine here." With Haley on his left and Angela on his right, he had no intention of moving.
Keith sat at the end of the table beside Owen, while Alfred took the seat across from Haley. The arrangement felt lopsided and somewhat pitiful, with five people on one side and only Keith on the other.
Without hesitation, Haley stood up. "Keith, I'll come sit with you."
Ivan rose as well. "I'll move over, too. Then we'll have three on each side."
Thus, Ivan, Haley, and Keith sat on one side while the other three kids sat opposite them...
Todd felt crestfallen. His Haley had just been taken away...
Owen, excited to be seated next to Angela, eagerly said, "Angela, try this, it's super tasty! And this soup, it's super sweet. Here, let me give you a taste..."
Angela obediently opened her mouth to sip the soup.
