Chapter 388
Owen was lucky to have asked that additional question; otherwise, Keith would have arranged a surprise for Haley without anyone noticing.
Now, Owen began to wonder what kind of gift he should prepare for Haley.
...
Ivan was still in the hospital.
"Ivan, you really went all out this time!" Louis announced, flopping down onto a couch with his characteristic nonchalance. "Playing the hero to save the damsel in distress works every time. No matter how tough Haley's heart is, she's definitely going to be touched by your act and pledge herself to you!"
Ivan lay motionless on the hospital bed, his face betraying no emotion, his inner thoughts a mystery to those around him.
Mark pulled Louis over, shooting him a stern glance as he spoke, "Enough with the tasteless jokes. Let's just make a brief just drop by and then leave. We shouldn't disturb Ivan while he's resting."
Louis, however, wasn't ready to leave. As a wealthy heir, he spent his days leisurely, either chasing women or racing cars. His life was monotonous, and now that he had found something intriguing, he was determined to explore further.
"Hey, Ivan," Louis lowered his voice. "I heard through the grapevine that the person who shot at you last night was Emily from the DeRoss family. Is that true or just rumors?"
The Winston family had gone to great lengths to keep Keith's kidnapping under wraps, expending considerable resources in the process. However, for those who were determined enough to delve into their exclusive circles, fragments of information could still be pieced together.
Ivan's icy gaze swept over. "What else do you know?"
"Ah, I also know your son seems to have been kidnapped." Louis shook his head. "You've got your two sons under such tight protection. How can anyone still have the audacity to mess with the prince of the Winston family? It had to be Emily, right? Has that woman lost her mind, doing something so cruel and insane? But I heard that after she was thrown in jail last night, someone gave her a severe lesson—rumor has it she's not in her right mind..."
Ivan's expression turned cold as he smirked.
To call it a lesson was an understatement. Once Emily set foot in that jail, she shouldn't anticipate leaving unscathed.
"But what does this have to do with Haley?" Louis stroked his chin. "Let me think. Did Haley go to save your son, and you, to save Haley, and that's how we got this whole damsel-in-distress scenario?"
Ivan replied icily, "Do you have too much free time?"
"I'm concerned about your lifelong happiness!" Louis proclaimed righteously, "I'm telling you, you need to capitalize on this heroic rescue. If you don't seize this opportunity, it'll be much harder later... A woman like Haley might seem cold on the surface, but actually, she's not that difficult to win over... Let me give you some advice..."
Ivan had intended to kick Louis out.
Despite himself, Ivan found himself leaning forward with a hint of curiosity in his demeanor.
Just as he leaned in, the hospital room door swung open, and Haley entered with four children in tow.
Ivan's expression underwent a rapid transformation. He leaned back against the head of the bed, swiftly regaining his composure as though nothing had occurred.
"Wow, the top beauty of Cuenca is here!" Louis immediately stood up. He was just about to excuse himself when he saw Angela at the back. His eyes lit up. "My goodness, whose daughter is this? She's so pretty! Come here, and let me hug you!"
Haley frowned, about to speak, when Ivan intervened coldly, "Louis, you have three seconds to disappear."
Louis recoiled in fright, and Mark hurriedly dragged him out.
Soon, only six people remained in the room—two adults and four children.
