Chapter 814
Owen remained silent.
'That's true. But why is Keith comparing me to a dog?'
"There's surveillance footage as evidence," Todd said, "Even if we go to court, you'll need to compensate for these damages. Who can do the math?"
The frightened store employees quickly brought over a calculator.
There were a total of seventeen dresses, from the cheapest being $100,000 and the most expensive, nearly $500,000, totaling close to $4 million.
Lisa's face turned pale with fear.
She couldn't afford even one dress, let alone seventeen dresses.
"What happened?"
Haley, in the midst of trying on clothes, heard a commotion outside. Quickly dressing, she emerged to find the hall in disarray.
Owen gleefully reported, "Mommy, this lady ruined over a dozen dresses and needs to pay $4 million."
"No, it wasn't me," Lisa stammered, "Mrs. Deross, I fell bacause your son deliberately tripped me. I shouldn't have to bear the consequences alone."
Haley turned to look at Owen, who guiltily touched his nose.
Haley quickly grasped the situation. The kids likely overhead the clerk's criticism and orchestrated this scene.
She calmly picked up the first dress, "We'll cover the cost of this dress."
Lisa was stunned, "What about the remaining sixteen dresses?"
"Although the Winston family is wealthy, we don't pay for others' mistakes," Haley said coolly, "This dress may be our responsibility, but the other sixteen have nothing to do with us."
She took the dress to the counter to pay.
Lisa, terrified, collapsed to the floor, her legs giving out. Staring at the mess, she covered her face and wept in despair.
While paying, Haley told the kids, "In the future, if punishment is necessary, never do it yourself."
Although the kids were justified today, they could easily be accused of bullying if it came to an argument.
Owen blinked, "So Mommy doesn't blame me?"
Haley smiled gently, "You were standing up for me. Why would I blame you? But there are better ways to handle such situations and think twice before you act."
Todd pursed his lips, "Because only this way will make that store employee remember that she can't badmouth just anyone."
He recognized the potential for criticism but stood by his mom regardless.
Cauth had been in the men's section and only heard about the incident from other employees after he finished picking out his suit.
He looked coldly at Lisa, who was trying to plead with him, and said indifferently, "If you hadn't blamed the kids first and instead apologized to Haley, I might have helped you pay off this debt. But now it's different. You can work it off over time since you are still young."
Cauth left with Haley and the four kids after saying this coldly.
At the door, he looked guilty, "I'm sorry, Haley. I shouldn't have brought you to this styling room. It's all my fault."
Haley smiled nonchalantly, "I don't care what others say. I don't think I'm ugly even with these two scars."
Cauth sighed.
What girl could tolerate her face being suddenly scarred? Haley was probably just saying this to make him feel better.
