Chapter 78 Angela's Disappearance
Haley looked at Angela. Her daughter had a blank expression on her face with no signs of excitement in her eyes. The earlier exclamation of "Daddy" seemed like an auditory illusion, conjured out of thin air.
Angela hadn't even called for mommy; how could she possibly call for daddy? Maybe she misheard it.
After dinner, Haley helped Angela bathe and put her to bed. Ever since Todd turned three, she no longer needed to be involved in these tasks. Once she had settled Angela, she returned to her study to continue working.
Her studio was still in the planning phase, but she already had two projects on hand. One was the daily maintenance and updates for the intelligent products of the Martínez Group, while the other was the preliminary design and writing for Project A-F.
The latter project required a lot of manpower, and she had no expertise in hiring. It seemed like she would have to ask her cousin for help.
She was so preoccupied that it was already midnight when she finished her work. Haley stretched and prepared to wash up when suddenly, a scream came from Angela's room. Startled, she pushed open the neighboring door to see Angela writhing in bed, her face contorted in pain.
"Angela, what's wrong? Mommy is here..." She rushed in and held the little girl in her arms. Haley lowered her head and kissed away the tears on Angela's face. After more than ten minutes, Angela finally calmed down.
"Mommy, did she have a nightmare again?" Todd stood in the doorway; his face covered in darkness.
Haley tucked Angela in and left the room, whispering, "She hasn't had a nightmare for over a year. did something happen at preschool today?"
Two years ago, when Angela had just turned two, it was the busiest time for her work. She had sent both children to a daycare center, unaware that the teachers there had no sense of professionalism.
Angela started having nightmares within three days of attending the daycare, and it lasted for six months. Fortunately, Haley had brought her back in time; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable. Since then, she never dared to casually send her children to school.
Angela, having another nightmare today, made Haley wonder. Could it be that the preschool recommended by her older cousin wasn't suitable either?
"The preschool is great, mommy. Heidi likes Angela, and all the kids enjoy being friends with her. No one teases her," Todd said, pursing his lips tightly. "I think she must have been scared."
Haley realized, "Are you saying Emily scared her?"
When the children finished school today, she found herself clutching Emily's collar, and Emily had a cold expression on her face. Angela was premature, physically weak, and extremely timid. She shouldn't have started an argument with Emily at the preschool gate.
Regret filled Haley's heart, and she sighed, "It’s my fault, I'm sorry."
"No, Mommy, it should be me who apologizes. If only I had stopped my little sister in time." Todd lowered his head, full of self-blame. Haley's heart softened.
That night, she slept with Todd on Angela's small bed. The three of them had a good night's sleep. When Angela woke up, she appeared normal except for slightly swollen eyes, showing no sign of having cried last night.
After sending the two children to preschool, Haley felt relieved only after seeing them enter the classroom with the teachers. In the morning at preschool, the children had their morning exercises, and Ms. Heidi, their teacher for Class 9, gathered all the little kids.
During the headcount, Heidi became uneasy. "Where are Todd and Angela? Where did they go?"
The class monitor raised their hand, saying, "Teacher, Angela went missing half an hour ago, and Todd went to find his sister."
"What? Angela is missing?" Heidi's face turned pale, unable to stand steadily.
