Chapter282

He pursed his lips and said, "Owen truly cares about Angela and would never hurt her, but Keith is different."

Ivan raised an eyebrow at him. "Why is Keith different?"

"He cares a lot about Emily. If Emily asked him to go against my sister, and he would," Todd said, jutting his chin out frostily.

"He wouldn't," Ivan stated emphatically.

Keith was his pride. He believed his son had principles and would never harm a little girl.

If one day Emily hurt Angela, Keith might disown Emily as his mother.

Todd clenched his fists. "If Mommy finds out that Keith and Owen are Emily's sons, she would definitely stop going to the Winston residence, and she would never make meals for Owen again."

Ivan's expression finally changed.

Haley's reaction was indeed out of his control.

He was well aware of the feud between the DeRoss sisters, and if Haley found out about his past with Emily, she might stop visiting the Winston residence.

Just the thought of this possibility made Ivan feel a surge of frustration.

"So, you mean your mom doesn't know about this yet?" he asked.

Todd pressed his lips together. "She'll find out."

"Let me tell her," Ivan said slowly. "Can you keep this a secret for a few days?"

Todd looked down. "Three days."

The paternity test results would come out in three days. He wanted to see his mother's reaction before making any plans.

Ivan nodded. "All right, three days it is." Sniffing the air, he asked, "Do you smell something?"

Todd's face turned pale. "I left the oil on the stove... I forgot to turn it off..." He rushed toward the kitchen.

"Angela, stay here. I'm going to help your brother make spaghetti." Ivan followed Todd in.

Even though Todd knew how to extinguish fires in theory, the leaping flames scared him into stepping back, and he toppled over.

Ivan walked in just then to witness the dangerous scene.

He strode over, grabbed Todd into his arms, and swiftly covered the pan with a lid.

The fire was finally out.

"Thank you..." Todd said, pale.

"You're still young. Leave the cooking to the adults," Ivan said calmly. "Go out. I'll finish the spaghetti."

Todd moved back a step, his eyes lifting to see the scorch mark on the sleeve of Ivan's suit jacket and the oil stains on the inner shirt collar...

His gaze moved up to Ivan's chin, also speckled red from the oil. Those rough hands had a few patches of bright red burns.

For some reason, Todd felt a sting at the tip of his nose. Lowering his gaze, he turned and walked out of the kitchen and went upstairs to fetch the first-aid kit.

When he returned to the kitchen door and was about to speak, he stopped short at Ivan's next act.
