Chapter 174
For someone who fussed over his mom and sister, Todd won’t choose to be nice to him!
Owen ran all the way to the main street without stopping.
Then, he spotted a familiar car.
"Whoa there, Owen, stop running..."
Alfred emerged from the car, his face wrinkly.
Every week Owen staged his little “prison break”, and it was too much for Alfred's old bones.
When Mr. Winston got home today, he'd insist he hire more bodyguards to secure the Winston family estate...
"Owen, stop right there, there's traffic ahead!"
Alfred watched, heart nearly leaping out of his chest, as a car headed straight for Owen. Thankfully, it came to a stop just in front of him, avoiding disaster.
Owen yanked open the car door and plopped himself down inside.
Kicking up dust, the car sped off.
"Hey, wait! Owen, for heaven's sake, stop!"
Alfred, out of breath and clearly spent, made an executive decision to return to his car, ordering, "Hurry, follow that car, we can't let Owen get away again!"
Owen peered into the rearview mirror at Alfred's approaching vehicle, his lips pressed firmly. "C'mon, driver, step on it, shake off that car behind us."
The driver, gripping the steering wheel, wore a frown. "Kid, did you bring any money with you?"
He didn't fancy going through all this trouble without getting paid for his efforts.
"Of course, I have money!"
Owen reached into his pocket nonchalantly and fished out several hundred-dollar bills.
The first time he had sneaked out from home, he hadn't brought any money and found himself utterly stranded.
He'd learned his lesson well; he hiding a few hundred-dollar bills in each piece of his clothing as a precaution.
Seeing the cash, the driver's motivation kicked in instantly. He floored it, zipping past several cars ahead with ease.
In the car following behind, Alfred was on the verge of tears.
In the past, Owen would only run, but now he'd taken to riding in cars as well — a dangerous new development amidst the relentless traffic.
If anything happened to Owen, the old man was certain his boss would never let him off easy.
Alfred slowed down, signaling the bodyguards to maintain a safe distance, not to tailgate...
"Kid, just where are you headed?" the driver asked after circling the main road, realizing he had no destination in mind.
Owen, resting his chin in his hand and frowning, replied, "I don't know where that is..."
It wasn't the weekend, so Haley would be at work, but he couldn't quite remember the name of her company. What did come to mind was something his elder brother mentioned about Haley joining the DeRoss Group shareholders.
He pursed his lips and decided, "Take me to the DeRoss Group Tower."
With a swift turn of the wheel, the car sped towards the DeRoss Group.
The DeRoss Group Tower stood at the heart of downtown, known for its heavy traffic, even outside peak hours.
As they neared the entrance of the tower, Owen pushed open the car door and leapt out.
"Kid, we are still on the street — you can't get out here, it's too dangerous! Get back in quickly!" the driver exclaimed in shock.
But Owen was already sprinting faster.
Even though they were still over a hundred meters away from the DeRoss Group Tower, he could clearly see Haley emerging from the building.
He saw the car door being held open for her and Haley was just about to get in.
Any later and she'd be gone — he had to make it to her before she left!
"Honk!" The air was suddenly filled with the sound of screeching brakes and loud honking.
The sharp sound of screeching brakes and honking horns suddenly filled the air!
