Chapter 870

The cold wind whipped past the car window, kicking up a bunch of fallen leaves.

Haley dropped her gaze, her voice all low and steady. "Every time we get close, this robotic chick's voice pops into my head. The first time, it made me jump off a freaking building. Now, whenever I get near you, it makes me bail or say some messed-up stuff."

She fiddled with a strand of hair on her forehead. "I can't fight it. I gotta do what it says, or my head feels like it's gonna explode. It's the kind of pain that makes me wish I was dead."

"Haley, Haley." Ivan was at a loss for words. He just hugged her tight, hoping his strength could somehow help her.

He couldn't feel her pain, but seeing her like this was like getting stabbed in the heart, twisting the knife in his softest spot, making it almost unbearable.

If only he had that Bio-intelligent Chip in him. He'd rather take on a thousand times more pain than see Haley suffer like this.

"Ivan, the chip in me might be set up to keep me away from the person I love the most." Haley looked up at Ivan, her eyes cold and clear, "The more you love me, the more likely the commands are to be triggered."

"No way!" Ivan held her tighter, "Tech isn't that advanced yet. It can't control emotions."

"When I feel love, my body releases something the chip detects, and then it starts issuing commands." Haley gave a bitter smile, "Never underestimate tech, especially the dark kind. It's scarier than we think."

For profit, to squeeze every bit of value out of people, those capitalists would do anything.

"I'll find a way to destroy the chip, Haley. Don't worry," Ivan said softly.

"Yeah, I know there's a way. Every program's got a loophole. Once we find it, we're free." Haley smiled lightly, "But for now, I gotta stay away from you and the kids. I'm scared I might hurt you all."

Especially when she didn't even realize it, saying hurtful things, using love as a weapon.

Ivan might be able to handle a few of her attacks, but the kids were still so young. One bad episode from her could break their hearts and leave a huge scar on their minds.

"Ivan, I need to move out and live alone."

"No way!" Ivan shot back without thinking. After a pause, he said, "I'll move out with you."

Haley's hand brushed over the wound on his chest. "Ivan, if you live with me, you'll end up covered in bite marks."

Those deep teeth marks were all her doing. And she had no memory of it.

"Haley, I like it when you bite me." Ivan's voice was gentle, "Let me live with you, okay?"

Ivan's voice was as soft as a whisper, wrapping around her like warm air, making Haley feel an infinite attachment.

She really couldn't bear to leave him either.

She leaned into Ivan's arms and said softly, "Then move out with me, but we can't stay in the same room."

Staying away from the loving Ivan would reduce the frequency of the Bio-intelligent Chip's commands being triggered.

Ivan's phone suddenly buzzed like crazy.

Ivan gently stroked Haley's hair and said, "Haley, chill for a sec. I gotta take this call."
