Chapter 705
Leonardo stared at Haley's bright smile, his mind drifting.
Every expression, every word, every move she made felt strangely familiar.
Almost like some invisible force was pulling him, he reached out.
Haley leaned back, cautious, but he still managed to catch a strand of her hair. He stared at it in his palm, inhaling a scent that felt like a distant memory.
"Mr. Windsor, what are you doing?" Haley's cold voice snapped him back to reality.
"Sorry." He let go of her hair. A whirlwind of emotions flashed across his face, hidden behind his golden mask. To Haley, he still looked like a cold, dangerous, and mysterious figure.
"If Mr. Windsor is unwilling to cooperate, then I will leave." Haley stood up, her tone icy, and turned to go. She could sacrifice a lot, but not her dignity. Love is about giving, loyalty, and commitment.
"When did I say I was unwilling to cooperate?" Leonardo's deep, magnetic voice echoed. "Tell me, who are you looking for?"
Haley paused, biting her lip before turning back. "Is Mr. Windsor really willing to help me find this person?"
"First, tell me who you're looking for."
"A man from Country H, who went missing in Hinterlands a month ago." Her voice was hoarse. "The last sighting was over twenty days ago." Her emotions crashed like a tree suddenly withering.
A sharp pain struck Leonardo's heart. The pain spread, making his fingers curl stiffly. He couldn't help but ask, "What's your relationship with this person?"
"He's my newlywed husband," Haley said, bitterness lacing her voice. "He vanished on our wedding day and hasn't been seen since. Mr. Windsor, I know you control the Hinterlands. Finding someone should be easy for you. Just name your price, and I'll pay it."
Leonardo's jaw tightened.
He only remembered the past month, and in that time, he rarely showed any emotion. He woke up in a basement, humiliated and mocked. He didn't know who he was, but he knew he didn't belong at the bottom, being bullied and abused.
So, he fought back.
For the past month, Leonardo had been on a path of resistance. His only emotion was the desire to rise higher, to stand taller. Other than that, he was like a robot, devoid of feelings and emotions, even sleeping only four hours a day.
Sometimes, he wondered if he was a robot, with his past memories extracted and abandoned in this land of sin. But Haley's arrival made him realize he was also a flesh-and-blood existence.
