Chapter 922
Ivan showing up didn't really catch Bark off guard.
About two weeks ago, Ivan had stepped in to put Adrian in his place, making sure the resort project went off without a hitch. Bark had heard all about it.
If Ivan and Haley were really splitsville, there was no way Ivan would stick his neck out against Adrian's crew just for Haley.
Bark nodded and said, "Alright, since everyone's here, let's grab a seat."
The five members of the Lumi Family and the six from the Winston Family gathered around the round dining table.
Ivan wasn't even thirty yet, but as soon as he sat down, the whole vibe shifted to him, making Bark's authority seem like small potatoes.
When it came to power, the Lumi Family couldn't hold a candle to the Winston Group, even with their long history.
Bark looked at Ivan and sighed. "They say the young ones are the real go-getters, and Mr. Winston, you're living proof."
"Just call me Ivan," Ivan said, trying to be humble. "I'm Haley's husband. Grandpa, no need to be so formal."
Hollis, sitting nearby, widened her eyes.
She was the CEO of the Lumi Group and had dealt with the Winston Group plenty of times. She'd even met Ivan at an international conference once.
This young guy, with his sharp and commanding presence, had left a big impression on her.
Ivan, usually so decisive and high-ranking, was now being humble to Bark for Haley's sake. Hollis didn't know why they seemed so close with all the divorce rumors flying around.
No wonder she'd been causing trouble for the resort project without any success. She guessed Ivan must've been pulling strings behind the scenes.
Hollis clenched her fists and forced a smile. "For the past few months, the media's been all over Haley and Ivan's divorce. I really thought you two had called it quits."
Ava chimed in, "I didn't expect Haley to be so chill about it. Ivan's sketchy relationship with his mistress, and Haley just lets it slide."
As soon as she finished, Ivan's cold stare made Ava flinch.
"Ava, apologize!" Bark said sternly. "Those reporters don't know squat, but as family, you should know better than to believe that crap."
Ava gritted her teeth. "There was a video of Haley fighting with his lover. How could that be a rumor? I'm just trying to find out if Ivan's really done with his side chick!"
Hollis smirked and said lightly, "Ava's just looking out for Haley. Ivan, you should clear things up. It was your mess that got the media talking about your divorce. Now that you two are back together, we deserve to know if you're serious."
Ivan leaned back in his chair and suddenly laughed. Haley joined in, "Even though you're my aunt, do you really see yourself as our elder?"
Hollis's face darkened. "Are you saying you don't see me as your aunt?"
"Do you even deserve it?" Haley shot back. "Let's not even talk about how you treat me. Look at how you treat Bryan. If you really saw him as family, would you keep causing him trouble? You've pulled every dirty trick in the book for the heir's spot. Do you think you deserve to be our aunt?"
Hollis's face flushed with anger. She'd been in the Lumi Family for years, and no one had ever dared to call her out like this, except for Bark.
Furious, Hollis was about to speak when Bark raised his hand to stop her. " Let's just eat."
