Chapter 856

Ivan's eyes went wide.

Biotechnology Chip Company, Martin's company, could it be...

"Mr. Winston, I'm just a doc, so my knowledge here is kinda limited," Damon said. "But the Bio-intelligent Chip is all over the Hinterlands. Leaders stick these chips in their folks to keep 'em from bailing or betraying, making 'em totally obedient."

Ivan pressed his lips together, "Know anyone who's into this stuff?"

Damon shook his head. "The techies behind the Bio-intelligent Chip are super protected, and all the info is top-secret. No way to dig anything up."

"Got it," Ivan said slowly. "Thanks for coming out. I'll get someone to take you back."

"Jared wanted me to tell you that things in the Hinterlands are cool, so no need to stress," Damon whispered a bit more before heading out.

Ivan stood at the villa's entrance, letting the cold wind smack his face. After a few minutes, he finally took a long stride and walked into the villa.

The aroma filled the reception room, and Haley had already finished a cup of coffee.

She looked up at Ivan as he walked in and smiled, "Your coffee got cold, so I poured you a fresh one. Come drink it while it's hot."

Ivan sat down beside her and gently pulled her into his arms.

His chin brushed against Haley's soft hair, and his hand kept stroking her waist.

His actions weren't driven by desire but more by cherishment.

Haley felt a bit uneasy. "Ivan, spill it, what's going on?"

"Damon's a witch doc. I asked him to check on you," Ivan said slowly, knowing Haley was sharp and not wanting to keep her in the dark anymore. "I've always thought you might be affected by the Hinterlands' Witchcraft, so I brought him here. But he just said you weren't. It's more likely some weird poison or someone stuck a Bio-intelligent Chip in you."

Haley was stunned. She struggled to speak, "I've heard of the Bio-intelligent Chip. But how it works and what happens to the victims, no one's really done a deep dive on it."

"I'll get someone to dig up the info. Don't be scared," Ivan held her tighter. "Whether it's some weird poison or a Bio-intelligent Chip, there's a way to fix it."

Haley hooked her arms around Ivan's neck and nodded lightly. "I believe you. Ivan, during the time I lost my memory, what exactly happened?"

"You'd zone out," Ivan tapped her nose. "You kept staring out the window, and no matter how I called you, you didn't respond at all."

Haley asked, "No violent behavior?"

"Of course not, what are you thinking?" Ivan laughed. "Haley, until we find a fix, let me stay with you, okay?"

"Okay," Haley agreed. "If I do anything crazy, you gotta tell me."

Ivan stroked her hair, feeling a mix of emotions. He had spent a month in the Hinterlands and had seen some soldiers controlled by the Bio-intelligent Chip. Quillan was the one who used the Bio-intelligent Chip to get a bunch of loyal followers.

Those people seemed normal with wives and kids. But as soon as Quillan gave an order, those soldiers would obey without question.

There was once a soldier whose wife was about to give birth. She wouldn't let her husband leave her. The soldier just kicked his wife away, resulting in the death of both his wife and kid.

When the command in his mind disappeared, the soldier realized he had killed his wife and kid, and then he offed himself.

In other words, once a command was given, the person with the Bio-intelligent Chip would become emotionless, senseless robots, controlled by the one giving the orders.

Who exactly was controlling Haley? Martin, was it him?
