Chapter 887
Ivan suddenly scrunched up his face. "Keith, grab Todd and bounce."
Keith looked shocked. "Dad, we haven't even started eating yet. Can't we finish first?"
Ivan pulled Haley into his arms, his face totally blank. She felt cold and distant, like a robot on the fritz.
Todd's heart sank deeper and deeper. He tugged at Keith and croaked, "Dad, you take Mom upstairs first. Keith and I will leave after we eat."
Without a second thought, he carried Haley upstairs and locked the bedroom door.
"Todd, what's happening?" Keith's lips went pale. "Is it really like you thought?"
Todd's face was serious. "Mom's reaction just now is just like those people online who got the Bio-intelligent Chip. It's a system command thing."
Keith's heart dropped. "What do we do now?"
"Mom moving out is probably the best move for now," Todd said, pressing his lips together. "All we can do is help Dad crack the program."
Even his favorite food couldn't tempt him. Standing up, he said, "Keith, let's head back."
Keith glanced at the closed bedroom door upstairs and followed Todd out of the villa.
Upstairs, Ivan held Haley tight, calling her name over and over until she finally calmed down. Haley's eyes moved sluggishly. She asked slowly, "I didn't do anything crazy just now, did I?"
"No, I got you upstairs in time," Ivan said, looking at her tenderly. "You seem to be getting better at fighting the commands in your brain."
"Because I get how it works, I can resist a bit," Haley said with a smile. "Aren't I awesome?"
Ivan chuckled and ruffled her hair. "Haley is the best."
Hand in hand, Ivan and Haley went downstairs. The bodyguard reported that Todd and Keith had gone back to the Winston Family.
Haley breathed a sigh of relief. "Since Keith and Todd came today, Owen and Angela might sneak over tomorrow."
Ivan nodded calmly. "I'll have Alfred keep an eye on them. They won't come over again."
Every time the kids came, Haley had to endure more torment. In the following days, the four kids indeed didn't visit. They would only call Ivan once every night and take a quick look at Haley.
The more well-behaved the kids were, the more Haley's heart ached like it was being pricked by needles. She had been living here for almost half a month with no progress. She was really scared she would be controlled by the Bio-intelligent Chip forever.
The only thing that made Haley happy was that the resort project was finally getting on track, with the construction of the infrastructure on the sea going smoothly.
"Don't get too happy just yet," Haley warned Bryan. "The smoother things go for us, the easier it is for Hollis and Ava to mess things up. Stay sharp."
A smile appeared on Bryan's handsome face. "There was a bit of a mess at the oil site yesterday, causing quite a stir. Hollis is too busy to bother us."
Haley was surprised. "What happened? How come I didn't hear about it?"
"Hollis forced the workers to work over sixteen hours a day to speed up the project. A bunch of workers got hurt and protested, but Hollis managed to shut it down," Bryan explained.
