Chapter 327

Ivan studied Haley's profile.

He was skilled at reading people, and he could tell that this woman was lying, but he couldn't fathom why.

Pulling out several tickets from his suit pocket, he offered them to her. "I was hoping to invite Angela to a piano concert on Saturday afternoon. Would you all have the time to join?"

Haley's gaze scanned the tickets.

These were tickets to a concert held by a few internationally renowned pianists, tickets that were hard to come by in their circles. Yet, somehow, this man managed to get a stack of them. There must be at least four or five tickets.

She pursed her lips and said, "As long as Angela is okay with it, I don't have a problem."

Ivan raised an eyebrow slightly. This woman was so agreeable all of a sudden. It was as if the stern woman he had encountered just days earlier was a figment of his imagination.

Buzz buzz buzz—

Her cell phone, resting on the kitchen counter, began to vibrate.

Haley glanced over and saw that the call was from Garrett.

She wiped her hands and answered the phone. "Mr. Garrett."

"Ms. Haley, I've just been contacted by the legal team representing the Chase family," said Garrett, his voice serious. Before, Jeremy was fighting the lawsuit alone, with limited resources. But now, it seems like the entire Chase family is pulling out all the stops for this lawsuit. They've hired more than fifteen lawyers, including a high-priced team from abroad. They mean business..."

Haley's expression remained calm. "I understand, Mr. Garrett."

No matter how many lawyers the Chase family hired, they couldn't take her custody away since the children weren't actually of Chase's blood.

After ending the call, Haley pondered how to reveal this fact to Garrett.

Ivan stepped forward, his voice deep. "What's your plan now?"

He had heard the entire phone conversation.

With the Chase family assembling a legal squad, Garrett's skills were limited; he couldn't stand alone against a team of over fifteen.

Haley looked down, took a potato, and began slicing it into strips as she asked, "Mr. Ivan, if I may be so bold to ask a question. If Emily hadn't sent Keith and Owen back to the Winston family voluntarily, and one day you discovered their existence, would you have done everything in your power to take the kids back?"

"Absolutely," Ivan replied without hesitation. "Even though the kids weren't born out of my own volition, they carry my blood. They are descendants of the Winston family, and they belong with the Winston family."

The hand holding the knife paused.

"But your situation is different," Ivan said seriously, gazing into her eyes. "Jeremy has a wife and a son. If you send the kid back to the Chase family, that marks Todd and Angela as the illegitimate children of the Chases, a stigma they can never shake off their whole lives. You have to fight tooth and nail to keep custody for the sake of those two children."

A sardonic smile curved Haley's lips.

So, if Ivan found out that Todd and Angela were Winstons, he would stop at nothing to rip the custody from her hands. He believed that there was no better place for them than with the Winstons. Just the thought of her children being torn from her life was agonizingly painful.

She should flee Cuenca with the kids.

If Ivan found out, she would lose the court battle without even fighting it.

Yet, she couldn't bear to leave Cuenca.
