Chapter 238
The warehouse door was locked from the outside, flames raging.
Yet still, Haley managed to escape.
Of course, with two more babies inside, Haley must have been desperate to protect them and find a way out.
If only Emily had just waited a little longer. If she had dealt with it thoroughly then, she wouldn't be in this mess now.
Emily was at her wits’ end.
She would have never imagined Haley having a set of quadruplets.
Just then, her phone vibrated insistently.
The caller ID showed “Jeremy Chase.”
Her mind, cluttered with turmoil, settled in an instant. With Jeremy involved, the situation could still turn around.
“Mr. Jeremy, your timing couldn't be better. I've just gotten hold of information about those kids,” said Emily, her lips curving into a sly smile, “They were born at the end of summer four years ago. If my calculations are right, that’s when you would have gotten Haley pregnant. There is a boy and a girl."
Jeremy was momentarily satisfied, then calmed down. “I ran into that woman yesterday, staggering drunk. Who knows who is her next target? She slept with me five years ago, and she might have done the same with others. Those kids might not even be mine."
Emily smiled thinly. “Mr. Jeremy, Haley is the youngest of our generations in the DeRoss family. She was with you after her 18th birthday. The very next day, my father locked her up in that warehouse. She didn't set foot outside for eight months. How could she have been with any other man? I can't guarantee afterwards, but I'm certain those kids are yours."
“The two children were Todd and Angela. They're both really adorable. They attend Sunshine Preschool, and they will be done by 5:30 p.m. You could wait by the preschool entrance. You'll see I'm not lying when you see the two kids.”
...
In the Star Technology office, different firms were located on the same floor.
A tall figure was pacing back and forth, restless and impatiently in the hallway.
A group from George's company huddled together at the reception area, sneaking peeks and whispering among themselves.
"Wow, that guy is handsome. Who is he?"
"I'm not sure. He looks a bit familiar, though. I feel like I've seen him somewhere before."
"Holy cow! Isn't that Louis, one of the four playboys of Cuenca? What's he doing at our office?"
George's secretary's eyes widened, and she rushed to inform him. "George, that Louis we've been trying so hard to meet just showed up here!"
George shot up from his chair. "Really?"
"Absolutely! I see Louis's pictures in the entertainment section every day. There's no way I could mistake him. I've got the project files all ready. Let's go invite him in right away."
Excitement surged through George.
Landing a deal with the Granger Group seemed as feasible for their little company as scaling the heavens.
They had gotten Louis's phone number through a convoluted network. An employee's cousin's uncle's distant niece had briefly dated Louis. Access to his number was one thing, but getting through was another. They would be lucky if one in ten calls were answered, and even then, setting up a meeting was next to impossible.
George had almost given up. After all, Louis’s Granger Group was way out of their league.
Now, Louis came knocking at their front door.
Overjoyed, George urged, "Let's go! Invite Louis in!"
With the secretary leading the way, George stepped out eagerly.
Louis was still lingering outside. He had come today to make amends. If Haley didn't forgive him, Ivan would give him the cold shoulder.
He was just trying to help a friend out by giving him the upper hand and giving the budding romance a chance to blossom. Yet, he had nearly gotten beaten for it.
