Chapter 1008

"Owen, this isn't about you," Angela said, hugging him. "Maybe she just can't come back."

Todd narrowed his eyes. "Angela, what are you getting at?"

Angela looked up at her brothers, her face serious. "Have you ever thought that maybe Mommy can't come back because she's in trouble?"

"No way!" Keith shot back. "Mommy would never get into trouble!"

He'd rather believe Mommy was living happily somewhere than think something bad happened to her.

"Keith, I mean maybe Mommy has amnesia," Angela said, biting her lip. "Maybe she forgot about us and Daddydy, and that's why she can't find her way home."

Todd looked at her gently. "Angela, do you know something?"

"I..." Angela hesitated.

She wasn't sure if the woman she saw, Camilla, was really their Mommy without the paternity test results.

Over the past four years, they'd been let down too many times. Every time they heard about a woman who looked like Mommy, they'd rush over, only to come back disappointed.

Angela didn't want to see her brothers' hopes crushed again. She wanted to surprise them once the results were in.

"Daddy said there's news, but it's not confirmed yet," Angela said, twisting her fingers. "We've waited four years; a few more days won't hurt."

Todd nodded. "Angela, you must be tired. Go get some rest."

Angela, worried her brothers might catch on, quickly went upstairs.

"No, I need to call Daddydy and find out!" Owen said, pulling out his phone.

Todd grabbed his hand. "Didn't you see Angela was lying just now?"

Angela always twisted her fingers when she lied, a habit she'd had since she was little.

"Why would Angela lie?" Keith asked, squinting. "If there's news about Mommy, she shouldn't keep it from us."

Todd stayed calm. "Owen, call Luke and ask about Daddy's schedule for the past few days."

Owen did as he was told. Three minutes later, he came back. "Luke said Daddy's been on a business trip in Brussville for the past few days. He's coming back soon."

"Angela also went to Brussville a few days ago," Keith said, frowning. "Could it be that Mommy is in Brussville?"

"That's possible!" Todd's eyes lit up. "I'll send someone to Brussville to check it out."

As night fell, the four Winston kids couldn't sleep. Owen leaned on the sofa in his room, holding a lifelike AI robot.

"Mommymy, Mommymy, sing me a lullaby."

"Okay, Owen, Mommymy will sing you a nursery rhyme." The robot's voice was gentle, just like Haley's used to be.

The robot's silicone face had the same smile as Haley's. It gently raised its arm to pat Owen's back, and a soothing lullaby filled the room.

In the room next door, Todd stood quietly by the window.

He wasn't as childish as Owen, who had a robot made to look exactly like Mommy, but he also longed to hear her voice. Every night, he stood there, quietly listening to the robot sing.
